we are going to book the gem 11-18th march tonite. and they only show inside rooms on decks 8 and 9. all other decks dont have any.

my husband gets seasick. i am gonna have him talk to his doc before we go though. but he is worried about getting sick on these decks. this is our first cruise

also how are these decks in general? rooms are inside cabins in the 8s and 9s. ex 9661 etc.

on 8 up front by front stairs. and on 9 they are back of boat by huge suites in middle by stairs. the rest are in the front.

or are we better off doing a gty?

thanks

I have not been on the Gem, but I have been on the Jewel, which is nearly identical. Generally speaking, the lower down you go, and the more toward the middle you are, the less motion you'll feel. When I was on the Jewel, I had an inside cabin, midship on deck 10. I did not feel any motion. However, it really depends on sea conditions. If the seas are rough, you'll feel it no matter where you are, but some locations will feel it more. I prefer to be on a higher deck, usually 8-11 so I can have easy access to an outside deck without having to wait for an elevator. If your husbad is prone to sea sickeness, I would avoid cabins in the front of the ship. Definitely have him go to his doctor, and see if he can get a sea sickness patch. They go behind your ear, and I'm told they work wonders.

Speaking from my limited experience, I heard mid-ship you have less movement. The midship cabins usually get taken up first due to easy access to different areas on the ship, plus because there is less movement. But all in all there is no guarentee that you will get a midship cabin. I booked gty recently and got a forward cabin, but I don't get motion sickness and like being rocked to sleep. If that's what you need you should just book the cabin best for your DH. I've seen people use some thing they put behide their ear for seasickness but I dont know what it's called.

I hope all works out and your able to go on your cruise. :)

Ideally, a mid-ship cabin on a lower deck would be best. However, since they must be booked already, try to get the most central available. If it's a toss-up (fore or aft), I would think that aft would be better. Also, Aft cabins on deck 9 would be better than the same cabins on deck 8 because the aft cabins on Deck 8 are over the Bliss Lounge which could be noisy at night.

Since you know your DH gets seasick, he should discuss his options with his doctor and pharmacist. While some people do swear by the scopalomine patch, I had a nasty reaction to it, so I never recommend it! I use meclizine (AKA the OTC Bonine and Dramamine Non-Drowsy). It also comes in an Rx version (stronger). One of the secrets to successfully using these meds is to start them the night before the cruise, so that they're working before the first possible movement. The other secret is to remember that these meds are only preventative meds. Once you do become seasick, you need a treatment medication. The ship's doctor has these (since they're all Rx- e.g., Phenergan, Zofran, etc). If your DH does get sick in spite of all precautions, get him to the medical center asap!

We did the jewel got room 10619 and 15 about dead center. Very little movement and quite. Wife and son get very sick used Bonine and motioneaze http://motioneaze.com/

It is an all-natural alternative that acts in just 3-5 minutes. MotionEaze saved our the day by stopping nausea and dizziness. About $15 a bottle you get it at amazon. I love the smell better than most perfumes. We did notice far more movement as we moved from bow to stern.

The lower the deck and the more midship you are,the less movement you will feel. But regardless of deck, you will feel less movement midship.

I am looking at what is available for that sailing and there are midship family interior cabins available - category I 1's. Book one of those - they are on decks 8, 9 and 10 but they are midship.

I don't suggest a GTY - you never know where you will end up and if right now all you are seeing is all the way forward and all the way aft, that is likely what you might end up with. And you also don't want to be under or over a public area, like the theater, casino, pool, restaurant, etc.
