Post Office.

 

NO Commision and you usually get a good exchange rate

 

E.G you should be offered around about 99c as it is fluctuating so much these days but normally take about 2/3c off the current rate and that's what they offer.

 

 

You simply go into your local PO and order the amount you want in USD pay for it and pick it up a day or two later depending on where you are.

 

I used this service in 2010 and it was painless.

I agree. Minimum amount is AUD$200 worth of any currency. They only have half a dozen of the most common currencies, obviously including US dollars.

The same goes for NZ.

Post Office, or Post Shops as they are now are the best .

The larger ones even do currency exchange on the spot.

the absolute best place is UAE exchange... they pay more than the post office with no fee.

they have outlets all over ... just google them... In Sydney there is one at darling harbour, centre point tower shops... near me we have 2 in parramatta and one in blacktown... so on that basis they are all over...
