Free beaches at Nassau and Freeport?

There is a free beach within walking distance in Nassau - walking away from the piers once you get into town turn right (go through the straw market if you want) and follow the road all the way to the end of the "downtown" area...past the McDonalds, and then keep looking to your right - there is a beach in that area. (There's free WiFi in the McDonalds, BTW - dodgy, but workable...)

It's not a fancy beach...kinda surrounded by rough property..but it's a beach with sand, clean water, changerooms/bathrooms, and a few drink booths nearby.

For us, Nassau in general was a bit of a disappointment, at least from the "within walking distance of the ship" viewpoint. I hear that once you get away from the immediate area it was better, but we didn't' take any excursions there.
