So to go to coliseium or Rout el Noir do I need to take a water taxi first then a regular taxi?Or just a regular taxi from the Pier where Carnival dream has docked?I seem to remember taxis being very expensive when I was in st maarten in 2009. How much shold a taxi cost to say the coliseum? Is it per person?any advice is appreciated. Also does anyone know are the casinos open early in morning like 9 am?Thanks in advance.

Casinos will open at about 10:00.

The Water Taxi stop at the Little Pier, downtown, is just around the corner from those two casinos. The Water Taxi stop at Bobby's Marina is very near the Diamond and Jump-Up casinos. $4 pp one way or $6 pp all day.

I think that taxi prices are fairly reasonable on the island. The short ride from the Cruise Facility to the casinos downtown should be $3 per person, but they close Frontstreet to through traffic is there are several ships in town.

You could even walk. I'd estimate less than 30 minutes all the way down to Rouge et Noir, the farthest of the four mentioned.

Gary,

We just returned from our cruise and we went to the Coliseum Casino. We had a lot of fun and I think my husband liked the dancers, lol.

Thanks for telling us about it and next year we hope to go there again.

But did you win? :)

When we were there a couple of years ago, we walked to two casinos and felt they were dumpy - cant remember the name but would not go back - any suggestions for ones not too far from the ship (taking a cab would be ok if it is not too far or too expensive) but we would like a decent casino any suggestions????

We don't visit Diamond or Jump-Up very often (only when we have a good coupon), but we hang at Rouge et Noir and Coliseum a lot.

They're not Las Vegas, but they're convenient and have some great penny slots. My wife gambles and I wander around Frontstreet.

I came out just a few dollars ahead and my husband lost some. I do have to say though, we played a lot longer for our money than we did on the ship.

We always go with the attitude that we have x much to spend and if we lose it, at least we had fun. Fortunately/unfortunately that's usually what happens, lol.

When we took a taxi from the port, we asked the driver how far it would be to walk to the casino as my husband needed to use a walker because he has severe back problems. The driver said he would drop us off on his way back to the ship as he drops people off at a different location. We thanked him and the next thing I knew, he dropped all of us off near the church and we had to walk a block or two to Front St and turn right and it was about 100 yards. I thought that was really nice of the driver and the others didn't seem to mind being dropped mid-town as opposed to the end of the street.

We always have a great time in St Maarten. I wish we were there 2 days instead of just one.

The casinos are on opposite 'ends' of Frontstreet, downtown Philipsburg. Google Earth says that they are about 600 yards apart.

You can walk or take a Water Taxi or regular taxi to downtown.

If you walk you will arrive at the end with Jump Up and Diamond.

If you take a Water Taxi, the stop at Bobby's Marina is very near Jump Up and Diamond. The other stop, at the Little Pier, is fairly close to Coliseum and Rouge et Noir.

  • 3 weeks later...

We will be going to Maho while in St. Martin anyway so we may swing by the casino near there. Our 2 kids will be with us. I'm just wondering how the rules are there. By no means are we intending to spend hours in there with our kids in tow, but just a few minutes to walk through and check it out. How are they about kids being there? Are they not allowed in at all or can they just not be at a machine like on the ships or in Vegas? No bad parent lectures please!:p
