Casinos in St. Martin

We'll be in St. Martin in a few weeks and would like to check out a casino or two while there. Already did a great tour with Bernard Tours last time so this time we thought we might take a taxi to a casino.

I think I read that the casinos are all on the Dutch side of the island. So how far would that be from where the cruise ships dock? And does anyone have any recommendation for which one they like best? We like to play penny and nickle slots.

Thanks!

The nicest casino is located by Maho beach and it's called Casino Royal

in Philipsburg. Just take the water taxi to main downtown pier (second stop) and go to your left.

The name of this casino is Rouge&Noir. It's not all that attractive or fun to play in. You can walk past Rouge&Noir to the very end of the board walk and play at the Golden which is slightly better.

The best casino's on the island all are a cab ride from the Port.

We like Casino Royal as mentioned, but also love to go to Hollywood and Atlantis.

There are two casinos on Frontstreet to the left of the downtown water taxi stop (not always the second stop, btw), Rouge et Noir and Coliseum.

We enjoy both of them for their penny and nickle slots.

From the end of The Boardwalk down to the Sonesta 'Gold' Casino at The Great Bay Hotel is nearly another half mile walk.

To each their own. In ou opinion Rouge&Noir and Collesium do not offer much ambience and rate somewhere much lower than the average 'native' casinos here in North America.

I don't think they want to drive all the way to French side to play slots.

The name may be french, but it's not on the French Side. It's on the Dutch side in Cole Bay on Union Road. Again, in our opinion, and our opinion alone this place is sort of a dump.

We used to go to a casino which was right where the water taxi dropped us off. We were told on our last visit it had moved, but where, we don't know. We liked that one and I don't know the name of it.

We did go to one that was to the right of where we got off the water taxi right near a beach and lots of shops. We got dropped off near the old one and walked to Front St and turned right. It was down a few blocks on the right side. Across the street was another one, but I don't know the names of that one either. All I remember is that the ladies' and men's rooms were on the 2nd floor. Does anyone know what the names are and if they are still there?

The casino that was near the Little Pier water taxi stop was Beach Plaza Casino. It moved several years ago to a new location across from the Air Lekkerbek (Airplane) restaurant on the western edge of the Salt Pond, about a mile away from their old location.

The two casinos to the right on Frontstreet are the Diamond (two floors) and the Jump Up, across the street. Yes, they are still there.

To the left on Frontstreet are the Coliseum and the Rouge et Noir.

There is also a casino at the Sonesta Great Bay Hotel, on the western edge of Great Bay Beach.

We just play penny and nickel slots. If we wanted to go to the Coliseum or Rouge et Noir, which has more machines? Which is a larger casino? If we took a cab from the port, would the cab be able to drop us off in front of either? My husband uses a walker as he has bad back problems and it's difficult for him to walk long(er) distances?

Also, I looked at the map that was posted a few posts up, and saw the Beach Plaza on there. Is there a reason you don't go there? We thought that when it was at the old location that it had a lot more machines and was larger than Diamond. What about now?

Which of those two do you prefer? Thanks again.

I think that the map linked above is in error. I hadn't looked at it before your comment.

Unless something has changed VERY recently, that's nowhere near where Beach Plaza Casino is located.

Looking at the map, on the left there is an area shaped like the state of Nevada, wrapped around the Fresh Pond. I believe that Beach Plaza is located near the pointy bottom tip of that area.

Of the casinos downtown, I think that Coliseum has the most slots, followed by Rouge et Noir. I'd say that the rest have a similar, but smaller number.

A cab should be able to drop you at the door of either unless there are many ships in port, in which case they close Frontstreet to auto traffic.

They're quite near each other, and only 200 yards or so from the Little Pier water taxi stop, kind of around the corner to the left from where Beach Plaza was originally located.

  • 3 weeks later...

Gary,

We just returned from our cruise and we went to the Coliseum Casino. We had a lot of fun and I think my husband liked the dancers, lol.

Thanks for telling us about it and next year we hope to go there again.
