No Casino first 7 Days on upcoming Voyager of the Seas

We are going on a Trans-Atlantic Cruise on 4/14 from New Orleans to Spain. The cruise is 16 nights. Would you believe that Royal Caribbean has decided to do renovations on the casino and will close it for the first 7 days. They are going to give us a $100 on board credit - big deal! My husband is so upset. Has this ever happened to any of you?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO New Jersey Mainer: I find this hard to believe since the casino is a big money maker for cruise lines. However, this is RCCL and they do things that defy odds. I do not like their product and don't like sailing with them.

We are writing to you today to provide you with important information regarding some maintenance and refurbishment work that will take place during your client’s upcoming sailing’s onboard Voyager of the Seas.

 

During their sailing’s, they will likely notice a few areas where maintenance work is being performed as part of our ongoing commitment to provide our guests with the very best vacation facilities. Most of this work, while noticeable will not affect their enjoyment of the ships venues and facilities. However, due to the extent of the work required in the casino, this venue will need to be closed for the first seven days of your April 14th voyage. In addition there will be a need to close two of our shops in the Royal Promenade on the April 30th sailing. The merchandise from the shops will still be available to you and will be sold throughout the Royal Promenade on that sailing.

 

As a gesture of goodwill, and to thank our guest’s for their patience with the casino closure and their understanding regarding the maintenance work, that may be visible from time to time, Royal Caribbean International would like to provide all staterooms with an onboard credit. This will be automatically credited to their onboard account and can be spent anywhere onboard the ship during their sailing.

 

In an effort to ensure we are communicating the expectation, we are sending you this notification and will follow up with a communication to all guests on this sailing.

 

We apologize for any inconvenience these enhancements may cause. As always, we thank you for your ongoing support of Royal Caribbean International and we appreciate your understanding of our efforts to continually upgrade our guest amenities, to better serve you.

I agree, that would really piss me off to the point of cancelling my cruise. I do spend a lot of time in the casino and that is one of the main draws of going on a cruise. If they did that to me, I would cancel and go to Vegas. But thats just me.

They shouldn't do major renovations during actual cruises. That's crazy and I would bail out. I am not paying a large amount of money for them to work on repairs and refurbishments to a major part of the entertainment on a ship while I am on vacation. Do it in port on your own time not mine.

 

The double whammy this is a transatlantic cruise. No ports and things to occupy your day. Even if you don't gamble, the casino usually is in the middle of the ship through a major walkway for entertainment and shops. It would be ugly, unsightly and not be a comfortable enviroment with maintence crew, machines and sounds which will affect the shops around it as well as any nearby cabins.

All cruise lines do this. Are they supposed to take the ship out of commission every time something needs to be done? Ships sail everyday 365 day a year unless they are being refurbished. If they only thing people go on cruises for is the casino what's the point in going. I am a gambler and I would not cancel my cruise. But I am a cruiser 1st.

All cruise lines do not do this. Yes, general repairs and upkeep happen all the time during the operation of the ship. But something major enough to warrant shutting down the entire casino for 7 days and that is know about it far enough in advance should be and normally would be scheduled for a dry dock time.

 

I am not sure it would bother me that much as it would only save me money that I would surely spend in the casino those first seven days, but like the others have said, they are taking away a major portion of the entertainment area of the ship.

They had two choices. Do the refurb during a cruise, tick off a percentage of the passengers that are die hard casino goers or put the ship into dry dock, lose 100% of the revenue for that time and not tick off the gamblers. They made a wise business decision in my opinion.
