Cruise Card

I understand that the Mr. & I will be issued some kind of 'cruise card' when we board. Will this card have our picture on it and do we need to carry it everywhere we go on the ship?

Thanks in advance for the replies and have a GREAT day everyone!! :)

The card serves as your room key and for to be able to purchase items onboard, such as drinks, shops, etc. (it is connected to your onboard account). Your picture is attached to your card and you will need it when you get off and on the ship. So to answer your question, you will need to carry it around with you both on the ship and off the ship.

Your card will not have your photo printed on it, but when it is scanned when you get on and off the ship, the crew member will be able to see a photo of you. You need to keep it safe and carry it everywhere, as it is you room key, and you need it to get on and off the ship at ports, so do not lose it when you are ashore! :)

As other replies, it's your "charge card" for purchases on the ship, such as drinks, dining upgrades, excursions - everything on board except the casino. You can use either cruise card for your purchases.

It's also your boarding card. It's scanned every time you get on or off the ship, so that big-brother knows whether you're aboard or ashore

.

On all modern cruise ships, its also your cabin key - same as modern hotels.

Whether it has a photo depends on the ship.

It all works very well, but if you're unlucky at some point it may not open your cabin. This is either because you're trying to get into the wrong cabin :D, or sometimes the magnetic strip fouls up if you leave it close to your cellphone etc. (if that happens, just get a fresh one from guest relations)

So yes, keep it with you at all times.

Upon boarding, you will have to register first. This is when they scan your credit card, take your photo and give a key card that looks like a credit card - your photo will be in the magnetic strip.

This card is used to open the cabin door, for all purchases, bring it to dinner the fist time if the seating is assigned, and every time if you have any time dining.

Yes, it is recommended that you carry your cards on you always. You cannot get on/off the ship in ports without the cards.
