What can be done in Skagway or Ketchikan..???

 

I booked today a trip in Juneau with NorthStar Trekking to do the Extreme Hiking, which includes climbing, hiking and a helicopter ride.

 

Now what can be done in Skagway??? I know they have a dog sledding and helicopter ride in Skagway but its 399.00 with TEMSCO and I dont want to spend that much if I am already going on a helicopter ride elsewhere.

 

Is there just dog sledding with something else to be done???

 

Has anyone done the Horseback Adventure in Juneau???

 

 

 

Also, what can be done in Ketchikan???

The information and reservations on the Chilkoot horseback site are for 2004. If they were operational this year, they should have 2005 up by now....

A room mate went on the Dyea horseback riding- would not recommend it. Superior with consistant raves is Joni's out of Carcross. Southeast tours has a tour.

 

As for the tour listings- what are YOUR interests??? Pick your top 5 and then you will get input for your preferences. :)

The Dogsled and Glacier Flightseeing sounds great but its very, very, very pricey. We already taking a helicopter ride in Juneau that includes a trek and hiking with NorthStar Trekking.

From what I gather it looks like they are not operational this year.. HOWEVER, it is still on Carnivals list of excursions..

Kayaking is just a wonderful choice in Ketchikan but consider direct booking for a more personal tour with Southeast Kayaks. Glacier dog sledding gets consistant raves- having done real dog sledding I have to also agree, it's a unique Alaska tour to consider. But your trekking choice is just excellent, and I know you will have a great time. :) Enjoy Alaska!

If you want to do something that is not a ship tour...rent a car in

Skagway and drive to Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory. It is a great little town, and you can see the best sled dog kennel in the world. It is Frank Turner's Muktuk Kennel. He has morning and afternoon tours and a short hike with the dogs. He is an amazing man who has participated in every Yukon Quest long distance dog race since it started. He has a great web site. check it out.

I was trying to avoid those whelled carts... I dont wanna pay money for that. I have seen pictures you sit on a sleigh type thing and you do dog sledding. What does MUSH mean?

No way around a snow dog sledding without a helicopter. I see the cart rides are now over $100?? Yikes, not on my list either, they were Ok when it was $30 a few years ago and superior for carts is definately Seavey's out of Seward- save your money. :)
