Anyone done luggage valet if you have free checked bags?

Recommended Posts

We're thinking about doing luggage valet on our Oasis cruise. We get our first checked bag free on Delta because we have the Delta AmEx, and I wondered if we'd have a problem and end up getting a luggage charge to our account. Has anyone done the valet if you qualify for free checked luggage?

Yes we do it whenever it is available. We get free checked bags on American due to our status with them. Because of our frequent flyer numbers the airline does not charge for the bags, we just pay the Royal Caribbean fee for the service.

Yes, last December with Delta. We were only charged for the valet luggage service. When you fill out the request you will need your Delta FF account information. It is a wonderful service :)

Great, thanks! We were lucky enough to get a GS so the valet service is free... I just didn't want to use it and then find out we were charged for the luggage!

I'll make sure to bring our FF numbers with us.

Worked great! We were flying Southwest so there was no charge for our luggage (cheers for Southwest because all bags fly free). Don't know what happened but we were never charged the Royal Carribean fee either. Something fell through the cracks and there was no charge on our account or credit card. Kept waiting to be billed but it never happened.

The luggage valet program is that when you fly out of certain ports, you can pay a fee, after you set out your bags the last night of the cruise you do not see them again till you get home. Some restrictions apply, for example only certain airlines and you have to fly the same airline home that you flew in on. We have used it before and it was great! You also get your boarding passes for your home flight while on the ship, so that painful day you go home is made easier.

And to add to the above, depending on the port, your flight can not leave earlier than 11:30. I believe for Oasis and Allure it's 2PM, but I could be wrong. The cost is $20pp for 2 checked bags.

Here is the link from the RCI website regarding Luggage Valet

We used the luggage valet in February of this year. We Checked 8 bags and should not have been charged due to status with Delta. RCL charged our American Express $240.00 for checked baggage fees.

We had 2 cabins and the Suite Concierge even filled out the forms for us to make sure that we wouldn't be charged.

Other than that it's a great service. A call to RCL got the $240 refunded instantly.

We use luggage valet all the time. Our last cruise, we upgraded to first class on USAir which results in two bags pp free. Reading the Luggage Valet registration form, there is a notation to be sure to notate if you qualify for waived luggage charges, etc. We made the notation as requested.

On the last day of our cruise, we checked the online statement (on the stateroom TV) and did not see the Luggage Valet charges and not baggage charges. Our concern was we would be charged after leaving ship, so we stopped by Guest Services to inquire about the charges. The Guest Relations rep abruptly said "Why would we charge you", so we simply let it go.

In the end, we did not receive a charge for the luggage (a good thing), in addition, RCCL did not charge us for Luggage Valet. So we felt like we got a deal.
