How to plan a Meet & Greet?

Recommended Posts

I have heard of people talking about Meet & Greets....is this something you plan with the cruise line? Can anyone give me the details on how one works? We are starting to get quite a few people chatting on our roll call for September now, and I would love to plan something for us.

Thanks for any info from you awesome Cruise Critic specialists!!!

It's not organized though the cruise line. Just throw out a time and location for a meeting greet on the roll call and people will either say they like that idea or don't. When we had a meet and greet we decided on a certain part of the deck during sail away as well as the martini tasting at 5. As long as you decide ahead of time people will know when and where to be to meet.

You can arrange with Carnival to set a lounge up for your Meet & Greet. The time will be published in the Fun Times and they will provide a waiter to take orders for drinks. You can also arrange for drinks to be provided for an hour or two but that will cost about $12.00 per person and the total amount has to be paid to Carnival prior to the cruise. That means some one has to be responsible for the money.

Timing is always a problem because some cruisers want the Meet and Greet held on the first sea day while others want it held the day of arrival just prior to departure. I like the departure day because no matter what time you pick on the sea day, there will be other activities going on (Bingo, Casino events, contests, shows, etc.)

Meet and Greets are a hit and miss event. I have been to some where a 100 people gathered. With others, five or six. It all depends how active your Roll Call is.

Someone in our Roll Call asked John Heald if he would help to set up a Meet & Greet (Dream May 19th) and he obliged. He said that he couldn't specify a certain place but to look in Fun Times for the time and place and a waiter would be at our service. So it sounded great. Very appreciative. When we boarded the ship on the first day around 12:30 or so we happened to see it was posted in Fun Times to be scheduled for 2:00 that same day at the back pool area. The ship didn't leave until 4:30 or so, so half if not more of the passengers weren't even on the ship at 2:00 or might just be getting on and not see it in Fun Times. My wife and I went to the location looking for people that might have made it on but it was just the pool area near the bar so there was no way to tell who was who or if anyone was even there for the Meet & Greet. There were no signs or any waiter there other that the bartender. I guess I thought if it was scheduled as so it might take place in a more secluded area and there would be no doubt that the people there were from the roll call. So the point of the story is, do it yourself if you want it to happen. We talked on that Roll call for months and never met.

Meet and Greets tend to be hit or miss. I have yet to go to one that very many people showed up too. Heck on one cruise one lady was down right snobby. Even in line getting on the ship she was rude to us...just strange.

Now this next cruise we are going on we have an active roll call and we have 4 things in the works.

M&G

Coctail Party

Slot Pull

Cabin Crawl

I will do the coctail party and the slot pull for sure as for the other 2 it will depend on the time and such.

Angela, how do the slot pull and cabin crawl work?

Thanks to all of you for the info so far!

Slot Pull- You have a meeting place/time and each person chips in set amount and puts it in one machine. Each person spends the amount they put in ($5 pull ect.) and once everyone has gone you cash out and split the money!

Cabin Craw: There are a couple of ways to do this I am reading about. Basicly it is a way for people to see other types of rooms ect. Some will serve wine/cocktails and such. Some will get a poker card at each room and they win the pot of money they chipped in or something.
