Honest Question (Oh no, not another tipping thread!)

Dear God, what part of HYPOTHETICAL do you not understand.

Contrary to what has been implied, I did not post this

to "stir the waters" (although there is nothing wrong

with that - if not here, then where?)

As I stated in the OP, the other dining thread got

me thinking:

IF the MDR went pay only, how many people would

never go and what would happen to the tips?

If that is "stirring the waters" so be it... I've seen

MUCH worse here.

Sorry, but your original hypothesis did not include, "what if the MDR went pay only?" That is totally different from what you asked.

So,to answer you question - if for some unimaginable reason I never went to the MDR for any meals, I would still leave the tips and probably tip extra to people who waited on me. Call me crazy, I like the tipping system as it is and I don't try to come up with clever ways to justify not paying it.

I wonder why so few care?

Possibly because we're on vacation?????? Honestly, I don't want to have to think that hard about about what I consider to be a fairly stupid topic to begin with. We live in a tipping country - end of story.

In response to the OP's first post - If I did not eat in the MDR at all during the cruise I would leave the tips in place. First, because the same staff works in the LIDO as well, and second, because it isn't a hardship for me to pay the $5.80 or whatever and it would be my pleasure to make up for at least a little of the amount lost due to passengers who don't pay the tips.

Thank you CB!

That makes sense. If I choose YTD (which I do) and never eat in the MDR, then no server is assigned my gratuity.

So, what does CCL do with the money they collect then?

Thank you too H8. :)

I think you should ask John Heald and see if you get an answer. It would be interesting to find out.

You are worried about $40.60 on a 7 day cruise? Forget about it and just enjoy the vacation.

well, for a family of five, that's over $200 for the week. Fine if it's going where it should but not if it's going to general accounting.
