Fort Lauderdale Hotel - What Areas To Avoid?

I'm trying to book our pre-cruise hotel (we'll be sailing out of Miami the next day). We have a full day in Fort Lauderdale the day before.

I'm seeing: Plantation, Tamarac, Cypress Creek, Deerfield, Sawgrass Mills. These places are all foreign to me. Any suggestions? Any areas to avoid? We'll need transportation from the airport to hotel and we're planning on SAS or SQS for our transportation to Miami the next day.

Thank you in advance :)

I would suggest the Hyatt Place North. They do have a shuttle from the airport and complimentary breakfast. Close to plenty of restaurants, shops, a Total Wine and a Publix. Also if you wanted to go the beach area the Sun Trolley or Public Bus 40 is just a short walk away on 17th. You can use either to go to Beachplace or they also go to the Galleria Mall. The Hyatt no longer offers a free shuttle to the port but it is very close and taxi fare around $10.

None of these cities are close to the airport, therefore expect a lot of cabfare. SAS probably won't go there, so you'll have to get a cab back to Fort Lauderdale too! Plantation is the closest and most of those hotels are 12 miles from the airport (the Laquinta and Hampton Inn there might have free airport shuttle). If you have a full day, my suggestion is to stay IN Fort lauderdale, either on 17th St or Las Olas Blvd or the beach. If you can't find an affordable hotel, then look at the hotels on Stirling Rd like Hampton Inn or Hyatt Place south, near I95, because at least there is a big shopping center there.
