Cvs, pvp, ta?

Could someone tell me the differences between a CVS, PVP, and a TA? I booked our upcoming cruise through Carnival and got a CVS for an agent. She's very good but after reading all of these posts I'm concerned.

I want thank each one of you that has posted on Cruise Critic, you Guys and Gals are so full of valuable information, and so willing to share it.

CVS means Cruise Vacation Specialist. I ask her what she was called. ;) I knew what each letter meant.

I was wondering if one is better than the other in checking for lower rates, etc. Is she working for Carnival or Me? I booked ES with Carnival ins. But as soon as I can talk to the rest of our group I'm going to try to change the ins. to Insure My Trip.

You know, I LOVE doing all of the researching and booking for myself and 3 other adults but it is really hard! I feel that if I make an error in judgment..... :D If I made just minimum wage for every hour I've researched this cruise I could use the money to cruise around the world! We are definitely going to have the best of times!!!

We have been booking on line for about 4 or 5 years now. Last year we had 12 family members on the Allure booked. Told everyone that I would take care of everything...just give me your info and cc numbers.

LAST TIME I will ever do that. OMG.....horrible.:o:o:o

In my opinion none of them are going to check rates for you.

It seems like a conflict of interest for a CVS or PVP to check to get lower rates for you as they work for Carnival and would be hurting Carnivals bottom line.

That is a job you do.

I have read a few post from people who say their TA checks prices for them but very few.

Many times we have called with what we thought was the lowest rate and our Diamond PVP has found us a better rate. They want to keep the customers happy.

CVS. Handle the cold calls. Every time you call, you will get a different one.

PVP. Are dedicated agents who are the only ones who handle your bookings.

TA. Are independent agents that do not work for the cruise line.

Btw...which one is right for you depends on your cruise experience.

For newbies...I would not recommend a CVS or book on line. There are important information like cabin selection and booking choices that you need guidance on.

For a newbie....I recommend a travel agent. They get paid a commission to know all the ins and outs of cruising.
