Here we go again - problems in Egypt

Looks like it's still in the 11 day Holyland itinerary leaving on the 11/16/13.

 

This is just a SWAG, perhaps given the issues, Egypt on both the 10 and 11 day itineraries might have exceeded customer demand and early bookings might have been a bit light.

 

Note - even if you do switch to the 11 day itinerary which still includes Egypt - that could change at moments notice, even once the ship is sailing. Many ships have diverted during this winter cruise season.

 

 

It seems very early to be cancelling Egypt for your cruise. You might want to consider booking a different cruise if Alexandria is important to you. But remember, if there is some local unrest as your cruise date approaches, another cruise line might cancel as well.

i agree--we went to Egypt in Oct and they were asessing the situation as to whether to go right up until we got there--they are not oging to decide 11 months ahead

We were in Alexandria for two days and Safaga for two days at the end of October/early November. We had absolutely no issues whatsoever, and never felt unsafe. In most places we went on private tours (just my husband and I, and a guide), no armed guards, no convoys, or any of that nonsense.

 

In Alexandria we did a day long tour to Cairo/Giza, Memphis, Sakkara and it was just fine (other than a long day). In Alexandria we did a private tour again and no issues. In Safaga we did an overnight tour of Luxor by ourselves and even did a very early morning balloon ride. Never once did we feel unsafe. Driving back to Safaga from Luxor we stopped at a tiny roadside restaurant/shop so the driver could run to the bathroom. We were the only tourists there and had no problem at all. We didn't buy anything, we just got out of the car to stretch our legs and the guys working there were super nice to us.

 

Don't be afraid to go to Egypt. Maybe stay out of Tehran square.

Well, just looked up the 11 day cruises for Jade that were scheduled to be Holylands (Egypt and Israel) for November and December. Looks like they are now Western Meds. Kind of interesting itineraries though - does Palermo and Tunisia.

Princess are still going to Egypt and Israel at this stage through Pacific Princess. I hope that holds for our July 26 cruise. They now have the excursions for Egypt open now too.

The April 18 and May 4, 2013 Regent Voyager cruises are still scheduled for Egypt and their Nov cruise also stopped there as did a late Dec A & K Nile River cruise.

So maybe it's more about changing that cruise altogether rather than the individual ports.

We cancelled our cruise on Regent for may of this year due to all the unrest. I was hoping to do the Holy Lands next year. Wondering if any ships will be going over there.

Yep, it was kind of funny for a couple days on the NCL website because the 2013/2014 Jade 11 day winter cruises were still labeled as Holylands, but the ports were all Western Med. For US mass markets, Princess and HAL still are doing it, but I believe it's with their "elite" smaller vessels. Celebrity was doing their last holylands this year and had to divert Israel on it's the final sailing.
