Gem Dailies 9 Day

Recommended Posts

... I wasn't sure how many Nickelodean activities there would be (if any), but now seeing so many, I know I don't have to weigh myself down with toys and activity books for my three children under 5 ...

Have fun planning for yours, we had very few children onboard so the Nick activities were low-key and mostly not obvious to others, unless you check the Daily & go look for them - unlike the Jewel in 2011 as they really setup the entire ship, including the Atrium for a full Nick-themed sailing following our return to port. There are items in the Gift Shop, great way to use OBC and Photo staff had plenty of memorable pix taken at these events.

Okay, posting the NCL 2013/14/15 Itinerary Guide (4 pages) as given to us onboard while promoting Cruise Rewards: including the POA 7-day Hawaii thru 4/18/15, Getaway 7-day E.Carib 2/8/14-12/27/14 & 1/3-4/18/15, Panama Canal 2013/14 for the Star-Sun-Jewel-Pearl, Spirt 9-day Canary Islands thru 4/15/14, and TA for the Getaway 2014.

Most of these should be on the website but this is a nice overview, I've saved it & kept these on our iPad for easy lookup -handy when there's no 3G/WiFi access or with a slow connection.

Happy planning for the next cruise ... :) :D

Plus, found something else in our packet (watching the Gem on her cam, docked in NYC today & ready to sail away soon - PCD really sinking in ...)

RYMOMA, heck with 2014 - seeing how dirty cheap last minute bargains now - this month & next, if DW has vacation time & get just pack & go - or won that PowerBall - even 2nd. prize would do

Wait..... So there were no official FORMAL dining nights on the Gem 9 nighter? If you go to dinner in a pair of Khakis & a polo each night are you OK? Forgive me, I have not been on NCL for ten yrs since they first introduced freestyle dining. That would mean 10lbs less luggage!

CORRECT! - you can even forgo the khakis and go in shorts if you eat in the less formal MDR (the more formal dining room and one specialty require at minimum long pants/jeans, while all other dining venues require only resort casual, which includes shorts)

Really???? great to hear. I will need to give NCL another try soon. When I sailed in 2002 they had just started freestyle dining & it was ridiculously structured, no jeans, very long waits, dinner took 2 hours, poor service & sub par mdr food, etc... Much more innovation in ships, activities & dining. I look forward to new perspective.

Cayo Levantado was $14.99 for Adults & $9.99 for Children. Not sure what the Child age is as they charge me the child rate for my 16 year old. We were not crazy about the Beach at all. We arrived at Cayo Levantado at 9am and the first tender back was suppose to be at 1pm. However by 12:15pm the line was so long for people wanting to go back they started the tenders back early.

Children's rates are for 12 and under. Surprised that you got a break but good for you!

They do check what you wear at Grand Pacific MDR. I was on the Dec. 4 cruise and after a day out at St. Thomas we return to the ship for dinner. I was pretty tired and forgot I still had my shorts on. We went down to the Grand Pacific MDR and the person at the front door sprying hand wash liquid told me very nicely that I have shorts on and I can not go in but welcome to other places for dinner. I then realized I still had my shorts on. I quickly went back to our room and change to a pair of long pants. When I came back to the front door, she thank me for change into long pants. After dinner, she saw me as we were leaving and she thank me again! However, when we went to the other MDR, The Magenta, the next day, I saw men with shorts on. I guess the long pants requirement is only for Grand Pacific MDR

A few other things worthy of mentioning - there was no Chocolate Buffet in the MDR (since moved to the Buffet ??) during our sailing. There is a drawing for the "Officer's Dinner Event" for a few chosen diners. Aside from the usual Unlimited Soda Program, Beer Bucket Program, the Ultimate Beverage Package is available. While MDR & Le Bistro still insist on a stricter dress code for dinner, the mid-ship dining room (along with the buffet) has cruise casual attitre - shorts were worn at dinner time at some places.

thanks for posting
