TerryAndDoug Posted December 23, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2012 We're beginning to plan for a cruise next November that ends in Seville. It seems that flights from Seville are very limited. We also have thought of taking a train to Madrid and then flying from there back to Atlanta, but looks like flights leave early in the day. Has anyone else been in this situation, or have other creative ideas we might consider? Thanks, Doug
Rare Hlitner Posted December 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2012 As you have discovered, there are no direct flights between Seville and ATL (or anyplace else in the US). So you have a few options. You could fly from Seville but would have to change planes somewhere in Europe. Or you can get yourself to a larger airport (such as Madrid) and get a direct flight. If we were in your situation (we have been there a few times) we would simply spend a few extra days in Europe and turn the situation into a positive event. Seville is located in a terrific part of Spain and we would probably rent a car for a few days and slowly work our way to Madrid. One-way rental cars are usually not a big problem if you pick-up and drop in the same country (Autoeurope or Kemwel can get you great deals from Hertz or Europcar) and we have always enjoyed driving in Spain. Another option would be to take the train to Madrid (about 2 1/2 hours) and perhaps spend a day or longer enjoying that fantastic city before heading home. We assume you are looking at the Azamara cruise and we notice that it actually overnights in Seville. So if its important that you make a flight on the last day of the cruise you can arrange to leave the ship the previous day (or evening) and take a train to Madrid where you can spend your last night in an airport hotel. Leaving ships before the formal end of a cruise is quite common on European cruises although you should always notify the cruise line in advance and ask for written permission. One other reasonable possibility is to either drive (or take the train) to Lisbon which takes about the same amount of time. Hank
TerryAndDoug Posted December 26, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 26, 2012 Thanks for the response, Hank. Yes, we're on the Azamara cruise. We like the idea of staying longer in Spain. Unfortunately, we have limited vacation days from work. Originally, we planned to spend extra time in Rome before the cruise, but maybe we'll add the extra days at the end instead. LondonTowner Posted December 30, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 30, 2012 Have you looked into taking the AVE fast train service from Seville to Madrid?
buchhalm Posted December 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted December 31, 2012 Hi, guys November 2013 is still a while away, so airline schedules will not be finialized. That usually happens in 1 March and around 28 October each year. However, current scheduleas are (at least on major routes) a good indication of things to come. Currently DELTA in code share with KLM etc flies 2 or 3 times a week direct from Madrid to Atlanta. Another option is to fly from Seville to Amsterdam, Frankfurt or London, from where you will get home easily. Have a look on websites such as www.dohop.com or www.skyscanner.com. There you will find an array of possible combinations of flights from anywhere to anywhere.

Work is a 4 letter word and we must admit that retirement can be darn good (especially for travelers). We spent over thirty years fitting our travel plans into our work schedule....so you do have our empathy (perhaps I should say sympathy) and understanding. Given a limited number of days it is a tough call between Rome and Spain. Personally, we like both options :). Hank
cruisinsince75 Posted January 7, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2013 We are flying from Seville in April. We are on an Iberia flight that leaves from Seville to Madrid in the morning. (We overnight in Seville). We then have a non stop from Madrid to Dallas on American. I am sure there is probably a non stop as well from Madrid to Atlanta on Delta. It would be worth checking. I know the Iberia flight is a code share, but you should be able to find it on the Iberia website. Good luck!

Edited to say, there is an Iberia Express flight into Madrid at 6:30am gets in at 7:30am Connect to Delta at 11:20 non stop to Atlanta. That is the only non stop flight. There are later flights on Iberia Express (one about 10:20) Then some 1 stop flights on Delta that would work.

It's just SOOOO early! I think we'll end up going from Seville to Madrid for a couple of days before flying out. Enjoy the Quest! Doug
