Liquor from ports

Recommended Posts

This is good information! I always buy Sheridan's becuase its so good, and not available in the states. What ports were you going to that the prices were jacked up? Ill have to try and avoid those ones! lol

Aruba and Curacao. Usually get it half price for bottle #2.

Only problem is bottles are rather heavy but the stuff is so good.icon7.gif

I am a little confused...how are you stealing something you paid for? Maybe I misread the post and i am not coming to the conclusion that you are calling me and everyone else that brings a little booze on the ship a thief. Trust me...with a SS bill of over 1000$ with everything I buy and do on the ship I do contribute plenty of money to the Carnival Corporation! Loosen up and enjoy your vacation without being the vacation police:rolleyes: I am going to have fun if I smuggle or if I dont...really not your buisness :D

Yes it is stealing - so sick of all these people wanting something for nothing; always trying to avoid the abiding by the rules.

The next time you look down and see that you are going 5 mph over the speed limit you going to turn yourself in?

I hope you never take a bottle of wine, or any waters or sodas on the ship with you...because HEY, they sell those on the ship...YOU ARE STEALING FROM THEM, they could have made money off of those items if they were to sell them to you!

Yes, you are better than the rest of us right...because you have never done anything to break a rule right? You always give the appropriate tip amount according to percentage not the level of service, never ever gotten a speeding ticket or gone 1mph over the limit (because that is breaking a rule:rolleyes:) and I bet you NEVER take 2 little pieces of those good little pieces of sample cookies even though the sign says take only one.. please! I have to laugh and walk away from your better than thou attitude and post because some people are not worth my time! I need to focus my time on how to smuggle a teenager in my bag...now that is smuggling!

The last time we were in St. Thomas we bought some booze in the shops and decided to bring them back to our cabin and grab lunch before we went back out. Guy told us to drop off the bottles at the table (which didn't bother us because we were going to take it home anyway) but since it was still before noon there was no one at the table yet. Stood there for a minute before we said to hell with it and went on our way.

Shame on all of you violating the rules about booze on board. People like you end up costing all of us money. Where you really raised to steal???

Stealing??? If I paid for it, how is it stealing? If they were really worring about it, they would take it from you right on the spot when they saw it.

Can someone please explain why the self righteous, legalistic people are on this thread? Is it just to judge us as thieves and rule breakers because we are trying to save money? I don't think the cruise lines are going broke over this. That's just weird. Please. Live and let live, and take the plank of wood out of your own eye, for Pete's sake.

Don't let them bother you - there has always been a large group of posters on here with their panties in a perpetual wad. I've "snuck" bottles back to my room as well - if you buy 4 or 5 bottles, it's easy enough to check most of them and keep one or two to bring back with you. My main reason for doing this is not even to have the bottle to drink on board - if we purchase absinthe, which costs $50 to $60, I don't trust it not to go missing or get broken. We will check the $10 bottles of vodka and take the absinthe to our room, so that we can be sure it gets home intact. And for those who wish to take a bottle back to drink - enjoy! I WILL say that in the past 2 or 3 years, Carnival has gotten a LOT more strict in terms of alcohol check in, particularly at ports which are big on alcohol sales. Security will actually count the number of bottles going through the xray machine and pass that number along to the check-in desk, so they can make sure everything is actually checked. It definitely makes it more difficult for those trying to get a bottle or two back to their room.

I have never smuggled but if someone brings on a bottle of something that they paid for its not stealing . Sure the cruiseline isnt making money for a few drinks but maybe that bottle that someone brings aboard justifies the expense of the cruise itself . Most of the people that I have met on a cruise still buy other alcohol , pictures , spend time in the casinos , take an excursion or two , buy souvenirs and even take in some services that are charged for onboard .Multiply that by whatever is spent by thier travelling companions . I'm sure the cruiseline makes more money off people that smuggle a little booze on board then the people that decide screw it I'm going to stay at an all inclusive .

On carnival - they made us put ALL our bags in the xray - and they told me to take my ONE bottle to the table from St. martin -- Welllll they only make this liquor in St. Martin and I wanted to try some - but they said put it on the table -- hubby rushed ahead and told me to keep walking - but the second time they yelled I put it on the table and waited till I got home. It is all so ridiculous.

Then in July, I bough mmmmm Rum Cream when we stayed at an AI for a week - and forgot to pack it in check in.... had to leave it at security - could have kicked myself!!!

We were able to get a couple of bottles back on board without meaning to. We had several bags and a backpack. We went to the table to check them in and while shuffling bags back and forth between us, two went unnoticed. By the time we realized that we still had two bottles with us, we just kept on going. We were not planning on drinking them as we had already ordered a bottle through Bon Voyage. No harm, no foul.;)

5 MPH? Technically, it would be 1 MPH over. And if he doesn't turn himself in, he is "stealing" because he is depriving the government the money from the ticket that he would have been issued.

But back to the issue I raised......let's see, LEGALLY buying alcohol in a store. Is that stealing? Um, no. Taking it back to the ship? Nope, still not stealing. Carrying the alcohol with me after getting on the ship? Nope, it's not mine, I'm not taking it away from it's rightful owner by deception or force, because I am the rightful owner. All of this is still totally LEGAL.

Not following how any of this can possibly be construed as stealing or illegal in any sense of the word by any logical person.

If you read the original post, I never even mentioned anything about opening and drinking the alcohol on board. Just keeping the bottle. Like some have said, they like just knowing they have the bottle with them and not worrying about getting it back the last night. I prefer to keep the bottle as well and wouldn't drink it on the ship.

I've only bought alcohol in port three times I think--once it was delivered to the ship for me, but the other two times I hand carried it on, and I don't think I was told either time to stop by the table, so it kind of surprises me that security tells people to do that. Of course, while I'd like to keep my bottles just knowing I have them, I've been too chicken to try it, so I stop by the table by myself.

Keep the stories up. I enjoy hearing about other people's experiences, even if some people seem to think that failing to stop at a table and willingly give up something I bought legally is somehow stealing.

Ever thought that some "rules" are somewhat more important than others?

That logic is used by those who wish to circumnavigate the rule that they think is less important. The rest of understand that rules are rules and while we may not see the need for them, someone else has. No one is forced to take a cruise so if you don't like the rules, you can ignore them by not cruising with that company or at all.

If they aren't affecting you directly, what do you care? Nobody follows every rule/law all the time. This world is so over-regulated. Certain laws, i.e. violent/property crime are important, the rest are a slap in the face to personal liberty. People who crave a totalitarian, nanny state are lacking something.

Are you forced to cruise or do you sign (electronically) the cruise contract voluntarily? Follow rules that you agreed to follow a slap in the face to personal liberty???? hahahaha......what a joke. Just like the rest of your post.

I guess because we are allowed to be??? Or do you have the authority to tell members which threads they can visit and which they can't?

Wow. Definitely not stealing, by paying for something and choosing to keep it with you. We put alcohol in colored water bottles we had with us, and no one checked anything. We still bought many drinks onboard as well, so we bought a few less drinks as a result, but we may not have bought them anyhow, as we had a budget for onboard spending. Im guessing the Cheers program will lessen the demand for smuggling in ports though.
