Transfer/shuttle Carnival

I am traveling by myself for the first time and also the first time with a scooter, with 3 bags, carryon and a Travelscoot. I am flying into Long Beach Airport. I am thinking if I make reservations for a shuttle I will have to get all my stuff and attempt to get it to some location outside which seems like an impossible task. I have used wheelchair assistance in the past and they would get the bags off loaded for us but we had to get ourselves to the shuttle location.

I have looked at Carnival Transfers and it states "You will be met and assisted by our meet & greet service in the baggage claim area and then escorted to your vehicle for transfer to the port."

Will they really meet me in the baggage claim and help me with my bags to the vehicle that will take me to the ship? Anyone have any idea? Thanks, Marla

You will have to talk directly to their Special Needs department, but yes, if they offer a shuttle or transfer service at a USA port, then they must provide accessible service too, but can require you to notify them ahead of time that you have this need.

In Long Beach, the luggage pick up is right at the curb, so should not be a problem getting them to load your luggage onto the bus or van for you.

Super Shuttle also provides wheelchair accessible shuttles from Long Beach airport, with prior reservations (at least 24 hours in advance is recommended). Carnival can choose to arrange for them to transport you if their bus is not fully accessible, at the same rate as for their advertised transfer.

My suggestion would be for you to reconsider your luggage requirement. We basically travel with one carryon and a large shoulder or tote bag. We have a way to attach the suitcase to the scooter, thus tow it. The bag can either hung over the tiller or put on the floorboard. The Splendor has “self serve laundromats” thus you should be able to reduce the amount of clothing you are packing. We also have a small backpack on the scooter. Our rain gear, first aide kit and little tool kits just stay in the backpack. We are basically independent. When we get on a shuttle bus, I have to remove the towed suitcase and can normally take it in beside me. However, I am making a tow bar for our next trip, so that problem may be eliminated. I am not familiar with a Travelscoot, thus do not know how easy it would be to modify it to accommodate towing or attachments.

Have a wonderful cruise.

Please keep the suggestions coming because I think it can help others. You all must be wondering why 3 bags, I would wonder too. I am going on the 49 day LA/Long Beach to NY B2B2B around South America for the trip of my lifetime. 1 bag has all my handicap accessories, backpack has of course the pills and things I don't want to check. The other two are clothes, snorkel gear etc. I really have cut down on the clothes. Yes I could cut down more but why? If I can get the bags from the baggage claim to the transportation to the ship I will be helped by friends from the ship to hotel in NY and from there to curbside at the airport. Family is meeting me at San Francisco when I get back in 2 months. Were you able to follow all that, sorry.

I have learned Long Beach is a very small airport and my worries have subsided. I am going to contact not only Carnival for the transfer but also the airlines but had been waiting until after the 1st so they were through with all that mess. Please keep the ideas coming because I know this is going to be the way of life for me from now on. For those that don't know what a Travelscoot is check this out at travelscoot dot com 35 pounds with battery 29 without and folds up.
