Yes they are free and personlly I think there is a good selection of DVD.

There isn't any charge to watch the ship's DVD's in your cabin.

Beside the TV there is a black booklet which lists all the DVD's that are available. You can either call the front desk and have them delivered. Or you can go to the library in the Exploration's Cafe and pick them up yourself.

We were on the Amsterdam this summer for two weeks and, for the first time, did the DVD rental. We felt there was a nice selection and enjoyed this option. I just went to the front desk and picked them up right away. I also returned them to the front desk.

If you happen to be in a deluxe veranda suite, the concierge will get any DVD for you.

Rich is correct. The DVDs are available at the Front Desk, not Explorations Cafe. The Front Desk is staffed 24 hours/day, so you can get a DVD whenever you want.

Just be prepared for the fact that if the ship is in Code Red (sanitary measures to combat norovirus), DVDs will not be available to borrow until the Code Red is lifted. This is unlikely, but it does happen. So if you really count on having DVD movies to watch, you may want to bring a couple with you just in case.

There is a decent sized selection of fairly recent releases listed in a booklet in your cabin. Pick up the phone, and they will be delivered to your cabin.
