Last year, I did two different one-day programs from National Geographic and their photographers. One was March in Philadelphia and the second this past fall in Central Ohio. Both programs and all four of the photo experts were super excellent and very informative, so inspiring, etc. Earlier I have posted on this board about some of their info and visuals shared. Links and added background is shown below. These seminars offer lots of good tips, secrets, insights, etc. Now, as they say in the movies . . . "THEY'RE BACK!".

Below is a listing for the upcoming locations, dates and topics. This year, they seem to be doing more of the half-day, little-low-in cost programs. If nearby to the sites and you have a strong photography interest, these programs might be worth considering.

From March 2012 Philadelphia National Geographic Photo Seminar titled: “A Passion for Travel: Photos That Tell the Story” with Aaron Huey with has done 25 features for the National Geographic magazines with a major cover story last summer from his time at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, AND . . . Catherine Karnow who grew up for her first 12 years in Hong Kong, has worked with NG since 1999 and has done amazing SE Asia work. Both speakers were very energetic, creative and encouraging people to “think outside of the box”. Both dislike boring, average pictures that do not tell a story, nor have that important human link.

From October 2012 Columbus National Geographic Photo Seminar titled: “"Creativity With Light"” with Pulitzer-Prize winner Jay Dickman whose career included three months living in a stone-age village in New Guinea and being the co-author of the best-selling book, “Perfect Digital Photography”, AND . . . Nevada Wier, an award-winning photographer specializing in the remote corners of the globe and the cultures that inhabit them, SE Asia, India, China, Nepal, Africa, etc. Both shared a great spirit in doing this work. Yes, it is real work and challenging as National Geographic does not have its photographers on a full-time payroll these day, nor being able to spend three or four months just in one site or location.

We are looking forward to our first “down under” visit, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Celebrity Solstice sailing, departing Sydney, doing 14 days on this ship we loved in the Med in June 2011. We will be finishing in Auckland. Plus, doing some pre-cruise options for Cairns/Port Douglas, the Rainforest and Great Barrier Reef, then Kangaroo Island near Adelaide before departing from Sidney’s scenic harbor. And, probably post-cruise in Queenstown and stopping in Hawaii on the way home to break up that long, long flight back. Hoping to get some more photo secrets and ideas during one of these 2013 programs.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Celebrity Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 114,462 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

Here are two photo samples from the October National Geographic program in Columbus featuring two very experienced and skilled photographers. As they shared their tips, techniques, they used photo examples for how they captured the interesting and dramatic visual images from various locations around the world. First is Nevada Wier and then Jay Dickman.

You you post a link? I couldn't find anything on the National Geographic website and the Columbus Museum of Art doesn't list anything for 5/4.

Sorry! Forgot to have a link for these programs included. Below will hook you up for added info, bio's on presenters, discussion specifics, etc. See more at:

Let me know any other questions. Or, others who have done these programs, can add their experiences, etc.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Joel Sartore, a National Geographic photographer, has done a lecture series for The Teaching Company, on the Fundamentals of Photpgraphy.

Excellent series specially for those who do not have the chance to attend a live National Geo course.

Appreciate your suggestion. I Googled that group and found the promo/background on this specific video course. It costs $60. Not sure whether I need all of the chapters on this course. Something good to consider for the future.

As mentioned above, we are planning to do an Australia-New Zealand trip a year from now. We have never been to Hawaii and might try to make stops there, either going and/or coming back to break up the long, long flights.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio
