We will be on the Star in March for our first NCL cruise. What are some of the little known perks that are available (we are in a gty ov) that you have discovered that may not be readily advertised. Such as: Lobster is only offered on the first evening in the MDR. Thanks

As a first time cruiser your perks are limited. You will however become a latitudes member after this cruise so for your next cruise you can go to the free Latitudes party.

Prime Rib is available one night in the MDR and that can be considered a Perk.

The Elements show is a Perk. It's that good.

La Cucina at 10.00 a head is a very very good perk...and should not be missed.

Drink prices are reasonable and is therefore a perk

The Red lion has popcorn and hot dogs and nachos and is definetly a perk

the Blue Lagoons chicken wings are a big perk.

Have a great voyage

One little perk which may come in handy is that if you are feeling a bit seasick you can usually get meds (pills) at the customer service desk. :D Also, if you would rather have bar soap, you can ask your room steward for some.

I don't know whether you'd call it a perk or what, but here's something we liked: When we first boarded our Jewel cruise this spring, we were able to eat lunch in one of the MDRs. All NCL ships have one dining room open for lunch on embarkation day, I think.

It was really a relaxing way to start a cruise, much better than having to stand in a buffet line like on most cruise lines.

When traveling with budget accomodations, give yourself a taste of suite life.

1. Suites usually include a fruit bowl. pack a small wicker bowl, or grab a plate from the buffet. Bring your fruitbowl back to your room to keep on your table.

2. Suites usually have pillowtop bedding. Ask your room steward to bring a foam topper if your bed is too hard.

3. Treat yourself to a spa pass (weekly or daily) but if not in the budget, there is an incredible hot tub at the forward of deck 13, what a view! For some reason, it is rarely used and has been referred to at times as a hidden gem. Bring a nice cool cup of ice water with a lemon slice or two...instant spa pass. You could also ask your steward if there are any extra terrycloth robes available (they are usually not in an OV) he may be able to get you one (or two). Please note these are "borrowed" and cannot be brought home.

4. Ask your steward to empty the fridge at the beginning of your cruise, then bring up any treats (or bring your own soda/water on board) and your honor bar is now all gratis.

5. As stated above by Kev, The Elements show on the star is a real perk. Don't miss this wonderful show.

6. Use your room service breakfast order form each morning. Instant wake up call when the delivery arrives at your predetermined time. Plus, you can have that piping hot cup of coffee the minute you wake up. Usually left in a carafe. Then you can take your time getting down to breakfast.

7. Definitely join your Cruise Critic roll call and go to the meet & greet they set up, you will usually meet the heads of each dept. and the captain sometimes as well. You will get a card with their telephone extensions, so if you ever have any need, you could contact them directly. And again, they sometimes offer a special bridge tour to the CC guests.

Enjoy your cruise,

~Michele:)
