Wonderful Copenhagen

Recommended Posts

Danish Viking, I have been reading your posts with great interest. From your information I have learned that the Legend of the Seas will dock at C330 on 2 May and 10 May, 2014. I am looking at booking Park Inn Radisson Copenhagen, Engvej 171, 2300 Copenhagen, for one night post-cruise. I believe we can get a train from very close to the hotel to go to the airport. I am looking for information on the best economical way to get from the pier to the hotel. I do have difficulty walking distances without resting. What are your thoughts on that hotel and transportation? I do so much appreciate your willingness to advise visitors to your beautiful city. Thanks in advance for your reply.

I hope you're enjoying the festival :D

I talked to Royal C&A a week ago and they are still saying that Legend of the Seas will dock in Copenhagen on those dates (I'm also on the Legend TA, Fjords, and Scan Russia cruises) at:

Copenhagen Freeport

"Frihaven", Flexpladsen

Berth #245

Of course, they say the above is subject to change so it could at end up at dock C330. I wonder where C330 is located. Does anyone know? I believe Danish Viking said it is a new cruise terminal and Legend is the first ship to dock there on May 2, 2014.

Bill, I was looking at this schedule posted on one of Danish Viking's links. The document lists ships that port in Copenhagen. I think I read somewhere that C330 is in the process of being built now.

I recognized that you are on the TA and Norwegian Fjords cruises. It's always nice to have acquaintances/friends prior to boarding.

Hi Naomi,

Yes, I saw that also. It is interesting that Royal does not know this yet (of course, with C&A I don't always get the right answer). Assuming C330 is correct and it is a new cruise port, it would be interesting to know where it is located. I think it is somewhere near this Google map location, but I assume there is something more precise. It would certainly help in planning transportation during the multiple port visits. Hopefully there is some free transportation to get out of the cruise terminal area and get access to public transportation.

By the way here is a website that is helpful to figure out transportation if you know your starting and ending points: http://www.rejseplanen.dk/ Make sure you select English before using it.

Anyone know if the port at Copenhagen has duty free shopping?

We'll be in the city a day or two before boarding and thinking of picking up a little wine and perhaps bottled water prior to sailing and was wondering where the best place to purchase might be.

DH and I will be on Brilliance OTS arriving in Copenhagen on 21 August 2013 at 07,00 (7AM) and departing 18,00 (4PM) I believe it will be Langelinie.

Here are the things we definitely want to do:

Take the boat tour - should we get it at Mindeanker Nyhavn or Gammel Strand? Which is easiest to get to from the ship? Which has the easiest public transportation, or if none, what is the cost (and availability) of a taxi?

Visit the Jewish Museum which is on the island where the other museums are located. Can we get there from the end of the boat tour? Is there public transportation or taxi's available?

Walking more than a block or two is out of the question as my DH has some mobility issues and can't walk distances.

If there is anything else we can fit in, please let us know.

I had made several inquiries of private guides, but the prices were extremely high. I would have done the ship's Jewish Copenhagen tour but it requires a 30 minute walk and I've already seen the results of a ship's tour losing a slow walking guest, and don't want to go there again.

Any assistance and a good link for a Copenhagen map that shows the boat tour locations and the museums, would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Danish Viking,

First off, thank you so much for taking the time to help us all. Your advise and information are invaluable. I wanted to ask you the feasibility of this plan. We will be arriving on the Constellation on a Monday at 8:00am. Spending time at Tivoli is top on our list of priorities. Since Tivoli doesn't open until 11 am, I was thinking of taking a canal boat cruise first thing in the morning from Nyhavn. After cruise is over, I figured we could wander around Nyhavn for a bit, then walk via the Stroget to Tivoli. How long will it take to get from Nyhavn to Tivoli walking? Also, what is most efficient way to get from Langeline port to Nyhavn in the morning? If by taxi, how much would it cost? Similarly, from Tivoli back to port (ship is scheduled to leave at 5:00p), would taxi be fastest way? About how much would it cost and how long will it take? Do taxis need to be reserved ahead of time or will they be waiting at Langeline port and Tivoli? Does this plan sound like it will work? If not, I am open to suggestions. Thank you again

To all of you asking about the new C330 cruise terminal its located next door to the UNICEF supply division.

http://map.krak.dk/m/nGL65

The air photo is not updated so the pier isn´t located in the water but on a landfill. :D

The closest bus stop at UNICEF that has 2 departures every hour, 13 and 53 past the hour.

So far this bus doesn´t run in the weekends but as i have speculated in another thread I think that they would change this to next year.

Your hotel is located next door to the Femøren metro station.

On 2nd May you simply just take the metro towards Vanløse and get off at Kongens Nytorv where you can take bus 26 towards UNICEF or Færgehavn Nord.

Here you get off at Stubbeløbsgade where the main gate to the cruise terminal is located.

Its more difficult the 10th because its a Saturday so bus 26 doesn´t run out to the freeport.

But you walk to Nordhavn Station (folloew the blue line) and take any southbound S-trains and get off at Nørreport where you take metro line M2 towards Lufthavnen (the airport)

I spent a lot of time reading your answers to so many questions posted on CC. I think you are the most generous person to share your wealth of knowledge. I bet you love your city. Come Sept. I will be visiting Copenhagen for a third time for a precruise. This time I will be spending 4 1/2 days. I would like to take the harbor bus and get off the stops and walk around. Can you please tell me how many stops I should get off and the attractions to see near each stops. Another place I am planing to spend a day is Frederiksborg castle. Besides the Castle what are other attractions around it? I would like to spend some time in a few museums for another day. Can you please suggest the best. I am not picky and art, history or science are all fine. I went to one last time and it was even free. Last time I watched the change of guides so I don't have to this time. Is the palace worth a tour now that I have time? I visited Tivoli in the day time last visit but is it worth a second visit in the evening? I am not interested in rides. I still most likely have 1 1/2 day. Any suggestion as to where else might be nice to go?

Thank you very much. I hope next time I would be able to ask you what to do on my 5th visit.

Angela

If we start with the harbour busses we can start from the most northern stop.

Refshaleøen - Nothing to see unless there is a concert on.

Nordre Toldbod - Kastellet Fortress, The Little Mermaid, Langelinie Pier, Resistance museum (if it is open again after the fire)

Holmen Nord - again Nothing to see.

Operaen - The Opera, Christianshavn, Christiania (freetown), )

Nyhavn - Amalienborg, Strøget, Nyhavn, Amber Museum.

Knippelsbro - Christianshavns Canal, Our Saviours Church (including the outside spiral staircase to the top of the tower), Christiansborg with is many museums , The Jewish Museum.

Det Kongelige Bibliotek - The Black Diamond aka the Royal library, Christiansborg again.

The Last stops are Bryggebroen and Teglholmen but they are just office blocks, houses and a shopping center with a cinema complex.

Tivoli is a must in the evening with the lights on.

Thorvaldsens museum (scupltures) in the Christiansborg complex should be interesting.

http://www.christiansborg.dk/english/

http://www.thorvaldsensmuseum.dk/en

Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek should also not be missed, especially not the winter garden.

http://www.glyptoteket.com/

If you are into animals i can suggest a visit to the Zoo and also the blue Planet aquarium.

http://uk.zoo.dk/VisitZoo.aspx

http://www.denblaaplanet.dk/

A good suggestion for one of the days is to take a daytrip to Frederiksborg Castle and Kronborg (Hamlet) Castle.

You can take a train to all of the places.

http://www.dnm.dk/UK/Forside.htm

http://www.kronborg.dk/english/

All of these places and public transportation is included in the Copenhagen Card.

Hello Danish Viking,

1 more question. Can we still get the 10 2-Zones or 3 Zones ticket. I remember buying that last time and save some to use after the cruise.

Thanks for the answer but please wait until you have time to reply. I don't mind waiting for a week or 2.

Angela

Yes they have extended the sales of the Klippekort fpor 1 year because of trouble with the new electronic Rejsekort system.

Danish Viking-

Can you give me any advice on eating gluten free in Copenhagen? Is gluten free well known or is it rare there? I would appreciate any information on restaurants that accommodate a gluten free diner as well as which stores would be most likely to carry gluten free food. Also any menu items to be particularly wary of. We will be in the city for a day and a half both before and after our cruise.

Thank you!

Jeanne

Danish Viking,

The port address given in our cruise itinerary is:

Frihavnen 245/Flex Terminal

Klubiensvej-Orientkaj Road

Not sure if this the same port you're referring to or not but will investigate your directions.

Hi DV,

We will be staying in the Radisson Blu Royal Copenhagen (right near Tivoli) when we visit before our cruise at the end of this month. I saw you mentioned Irma for wine and also that it's a grocery store. Do you have wine stores? Ae there any good ones near our hotel? We don't want to go through all that trouble unless we're buying good wine:)

That is indeed the same pier i was thinking of.

If you look at the picture i posted then you can find Aldi in the L shaped building just next to the station.

Østerport is the next station further up the line.

Its either Superbrugsen at Halmtorvet 25 or Irma at Industriens hus, Vesterbrogade 1 or Irma City at Vesterbrogade 46.

But for dedicated wine stores then its Skjold Burne but the closest location is at Kongens Nytorv on the other end of Strøget.

Hi Danish Viking,

Thank you for your prompt response. Looks like the bus option is the best way to go. Do we need to get bus tickets ahead of time? If yes, is the ticket office close to the Langeline pier and Tivoli?

Thank you also for sending the links, very helpful too.

You just buy a 2 zone ticket in the bus (note that there is no 1 zone ticket), this ticket costs 24 DKK but you need danish cash.
