]Hope nobody minds we are discussing so much Celebrity on an Oceania board.

Personally, I'm happy to see the comments. It firms up my decision whether I want to travel on Celebrity or not. Information is good.

I am considering trying O cruise line. I have read reviews stating the average age of the passengers is 75 and that most people are in their staterooms early and do not even attend the shows. Is this true?

Thanks

MY opinion is that this is very exaggerated. The average age is 75????

Not on cruises I've been on. In fact, there are many more younger passengers now than there were in the past. Proviso: the itinerary you're looking at may be a factor.

And while we personally don't tend to go to the shows it isn't because we're already in bed! We just don't care for most of the shows, but when there is one that interests us -- we go. (We are more classically oriented so the typical "broadway" kind of shows don't appeal to us.)

But rather than being in bed, we tend to close the dining room ...

I agree with Mura ..it may depend on the itinerary the age demographics

We are mid 60's & most people we have met on O have been in the same age range ..there are some older & some younger

We get along with most age groups over 25 :)

We have been to some of the shows where there is standing room only so not everyone is in their cabin

we also prefer the classical music type shows rather than the productions

We may go to the casino or sometime Horizons if there is something of interest going on there

On a port intensive cruise people do retire early maybe 11pm because they are up & running by 7 or 8 am for tours

It's true that Oceania caters to a slightly older crowd than most of the mass market cruise lines; the target demographic is 50 to 70 (although I'm 72 and they haven't kicked me off, yet ;)). There are even younger folks on every cruise. Most of the guests are well-traveled, have "been there and done that" and are looking for a more relaxed cruise experience. That's why the lack of formal nights and the open dining policy are so popular on O.

It's also true that there is little late-night carousing on Oceania. It's true that some guests retire to their cabins after dinner; remember that many cruises on O involve a port every day, which can get tiring. However, the shows are well attended with at least half of the guests present, the casinos, while small, seem to be well attended, there is some activity in the Horizons Lounge until around midnight, and I've seen Martinis still lively at 1 AM. I'd say the majority of the passengers are in their cabins by 11 PM.

If you're looking for a jumping, late night scene, Oceania is probably not the best fit.

Actually sounds like a good fit!

We are die hard fans of O and have never considered another line (25 cruises on O), but, since their itinerary doesn't include LA or San Diego to Hawaii, we have booked Celebrity for Feb. 2014. The price is right and we can still get butler service, which we like.
