Wine-O Posted February 3, 2013 #51 Share Posted February 3, 2013 If you are staying in a suite and order room service, you don't tip the butler? No, that's his job if you are in a suite to provide room service, espresso's, cappacinos, take care of your laundry, and set up your balcony should you desire to have breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and additional "stuff." ILVet65 Posted February 3, 2013 #52 Share Posted February 3, 2013 For what it is worth, when we have traveled or lived overseas, we have always tried to conform to the local customs...being Americans sometimes we got it wrong, but it only took 1 time trying to tip the bartender in England or giving 20% to our German waitress to figure out what the local norm was. When we were told of the local custom, we didn't try to tell the folks how they were wrong and they should embrace how we do it "in the good old USA"...instead, we said thank you and tried our best to honor their local customs. takichum Posted February 14, 2013 #53 Share Posted February 14, 2013 We do not believe in "blanket" tipping. We will tip generously when we feel it is warranted. Australians are a generous lot overall. I would much rather give a tip personally to whomever I feel has deserved it. Perhaps if the American cruise lines paid their staff a decent wage, then there would not be the necessity for automatic tipping. We will be requesting that the automatic gratuity charge is not added to our account. I am greatly looking forward to our cruise on Solstice. Tight arses. Go with the flow. look after them and they will look after you.
miched Posted February 14, 2013 #54 Share Posted February 14, 2013 So, I am prepaying the $11.50 per person per day for our cruise.... I also have the drink package - the tips are included in this as well.... Are there any other tips that I am forgetting? I want to make sure I have everyone covered. The extortion at the pier for the luggage handler. Tips at end of tours, room service, dealers in the casino. 15% will be added to the cost of wine, beer and spirit seminars, wine purchased from the wine dispensers, gelato, drinks from your mini fridge, any bottled wine that you buy, the extra cost of a drink over the $12 limit, the martini flight sampler, spa services. May have omitted a few but I think you get the idea. Prepaid does not include everything. Hope this helps. .
