Discovery Network's "Dry-dock, a Cruise Ship Reborn"

I know that there are several of you out there who love the cruise documentaries... so here is some info on one of them about RCI (although the series already has begun, it will repeat later in the summer):

From port to starboard, bow to stern, Royal Caribbean International's

Sovereign of the Seas® received a complete makeover last fall and Discovery

Network was there to capture it all. Tune in to TLC June 5th to catch the

beginning of the 5 part series so you can meet the accomplished team that

tackled the challenge. Get familiar with all the spaces that, within a

mere 3-weeks, were completely transformed. Throughout the 5 part series

you will see the workers onboard face fatigue and stress, all symptoms of

an ailment the project team calls "dry dock fever". As far behind schedule

as the team is, there is little hope they can pull it off. To compound the

problems, a water pipe bursts directly over the main computer room leaving

Christian Compton and Dominick Flores scrambling to prevent the ship’s

nerve center from being ruined. Plus, the project team and crew must

prepare for 1000 Royal Caribbean employees to help "shake down" the ship’s

systems, and the U.S. Coast Guard inspection that involves an up close look

at the ship’s structure and emergency procedures. As the shakedown crew

arrives, the project team is scrambling. Carlos Reyes searches for missing

furniture while others haul garbage. Will the makeover be complete by the

time paying guests arrive for the first revenue sailing? Tune in to

see....

Thanks! I caught both Episode 1 and 2 last night and TiVo'd both. Really interesting stuff. It looks like they not only stretched it but ripped it apart and redid everything, including new cabins with balconies, added space to the Windjammer, stripped all the paint from below the waterline to the base steel so it could be repainted properly, took a look at the screws and thrusters, etc.

Sovereign wasn't stretched. It was just completely redone. They are stretching Enchantment now.

Oops, looks like something about this topic was already posted on this board. I must be punished. ;)

You seem to do this a lot. Using the wink smiley makes me think you do it on purpose just to cause contraversery

I thought it was interesting too. Putting whole, premade cabins in doesn't surprise me. I thought that's how all cruise ships are made? It makes sense since it's efficient (allows the cabins to be premade elsewhere, brought in and installed instantly, instead of building them inside the ship). Adding balconies, however, seems interesting.

And I guess now we'll know what's happening onboard when they announce "Bravo".
