The definitive Cheers program Thread

Hi all,

I have read thru many pages of this thread and have seen conflicting information. My question:

If you purchase the cheers pkg., and you happen to drink your 15 drink limit, as long as you are deemed ok for more by bartender, can you purchase another drink or drinks? or

is it that once you reach the 15 drink limit in the 24 hrs, you are cut off for good, even if you want to buy a drink?

I doubt this would happen, but with the different types of drinks and tasting different things (not necessarily finishing all of one drink), i could see possibly going beyond the 15 on a sea day..........

After 15, you're cut off and you can't even buy one. Once you hit double digits, there are always options such as ordering a stronger drink like a Long Island Iced Tea. If you're a beer drinker, you can stock up on unopened beers by ordering them before you go to bed and having them in your cabin if you have days where you do not reach 15 so that you can then consume those beers on days when you hit your limit or you can take them to HMC if you are visiting there. A small collapsible cooler goes a long way.

I've read multiple times on these Cheers threads that some waiters told people when they were at their 15 drinks and they were allowed to then purchase drinks so they wouldn't get shut off.

Very happy to see that it has been added to Fascination! Our cruise is just a few weeks away and I think it will make sense for us to get it.

Question - I see that Cheers cannot be used for alcohol on HMC, but what about soda? Can I at least get some diet cokes while we are on the island that day since that wouldn't be subject to the 15 drink limit?

THIS cannot be farther from the truth. As I stated above was on the breeze in march. Half my group reached 15 every night. Once you reach 15 THEN you have to PAY for your drinks and they are no longer zeroed out. Even some of the most belligerent people weren't cut off, just had to buy. Which is why even people with the package still had 700 dollar bar tabs.

As usual.....YMMV. There have been numerous reports from people on many different ships that have been cut off after hitting the limit of 15.

Personally, I don't care either way because my next 2 cruises are on a cruise line that does not cut you off at 15 drinks and occasionally runs promotions that include their Classic drinks package for FREE. I can upgrade to their Premium package for 80 bucks over the course of a 7 day cruise and I can drink all I want for the drinks that go up to 12.00 each. And I get bottled high end water and coffee drinks as well. Or, I can go back to Carnival and pay 400 bucks for 7 days of a lesser quantity and quality drinking program.

Speaking of HMC, does anyone know why they stopped allowing the cheers program there? I was just on the Victory in March and it was allowed. I just got off the Liberty Saturday, and it was not. One waiter told me it was because they couldn't keep track of the drinks.....which sounds odd seeing that they use the same computers as on the ship.

Had read on the boards that the BS excuse was that they could not keep track of when people hit the 15 drink limit because the specific numbers per account are not tallied until they get back on the ship. Because of this factor, someone could theoretically exceed the 15 drink limit on HMC. They still accept the bottomless bubbles because there is no limit. I did read a poster inquire as to whether those who had the Cheers sticker could at least get soda on HMC since it is unlimited.

I asked about using the cheers program's free soda on HMC. The reply which was not confirmed was that you cannot use any portion of the card on HMC. So who knows but I will find out in November.

My husband and I were "those people." We were cut off at 15 drinks on the one sea day of our cruise. We had just sat down at the first adult comedy show. Real buzz kill.

This is ingenius! However, don't they usually open the beers before they bring them to you? Also, couldn't you, in theory, bring these unopened beers with you on shore since they don't really check your bags when you exit the boat, just when you return? Thanks!

You can get unopened beers from any bartender at any bar. The Fosters Oil cans are the best bet since there are basically 2 beers for the price of one. I mentioned HMC because they no longer accept the Cheers card there. You could do it for just about any port. A collapsible cooler and a few bucks to your steward for ice and you're all set.

I have never heard of anyone being accused of smuggling beer OFF the ship :D.

Can anyone tell me what your sail & sign bill shows for the Cheers charge in the 1st place?? Like Cheers Package 57.48 x 7 days or what??

My sail & sign statement just shows Date 4/29/13, time 3:16 PM, location Pool Tritons, receipt number, folio number, and amount $287.21 (5 night cruise on Victory 49.95 x 5 + 15% gratuity. There were also 3 separate 70 cent charges for taxes on 3 drinks purchased prior to entering international waters. Hope this helps.

I just finished a breeze cruise and did the cheers program and it was almost free, well if you are a casino patron. Any of the 6 classic cocktails give you a $5.00 match play, even when using cheers. So 6 or 7 Long Islands and 3 or 4 cruisers equaled out to 50-60 in match play every day. So I think between winning and losing on the match plays cheers cost me about 20 a day. I'm fine with that price

I've never heard this before. Are you saying if you buy a classic cocktail at the pool bar and you go to the casino, you get $5 match play because you bought a drink? If this is true, my DW will be tickled pink!!!

If I recall correctly, the match play is stamped onto your receipt and you then show it at the casino for your 5 dollar match, but the stamps were only given out for certain drinks, like the classic cocktail list and only given out at certain bars at specific times. I think it was in the comedy club at night and maybe some other times as well, but it would not make sense for them to do it at the pool bar in the heat of the day when people are drinking the most.

Is there any way to find out ahead of time when and where this could be found (such as which bars and at what time)? She doesn't drink much and she doesn't gamble much but if she could get a little extra by combining the two, why not?

I can only speak for breeze and how it was from the 25th-31st.

It was any bar any time and any of the 6 "classic" cocktails they did not stamp the receipt you brought the receipt to the cashier in the casino and got you 5 match play card. The receipt you were turning in had to be for that day.

This program wasn't advertised if not for our bar server in the dining room we wouldn't have known. There were some napkins that said something about classic cocktails earns match play
