Dawn vs Jewel for kids???

Looking at cruise from New Orleans on Dawn or from Houston on Jewel but which ship is better for kids?? Any advice, opinions??? We will be flying from Seattle, WA & heard it was better to go out of New Orleans... We will have 4 adults & 4 kids ages, 10,7,5 & 2!

From my TA:

Houston is primarily intended for the Southern & SW drive market… transfer is 70 miles.

New Orleans is much easier. If you have kids in tow this is a consideration.

The jewel has the Nickelodeon activities and the large spiral slide on the main pool deck. The Dawn has an amazing kids pool area in the aft that will be great for the younger kids...but not so much for the older ones.

The Dawn has 4 ports versus only 3 for the Jewel.

Either way, they are great ships with lots to do for everyone.

Thank you everyone.............have booked the Jewel.........we got two mini suites adjoining & really great price w/AARP discount........I had budgeted $8000 for this family cruise of 8...........ending up being less than $6000 plus we have $50 OBC in each cabin. My TA is keeping eye open for any other perks he can get us............I considered getting Family suite w/balcony connected to mini suite........it was tempting(butler, etc.) but would have been $2000 more.......can use those $$$ for airfare as we all have to fly from Seattle to Houston.........:)

Warning- DO NOT venture into a suite with Butler. You will never ever be able to return to a regular cabin :)

I'd cruise on any NCL ship after my cruise with the Star. My daughter had so much fun in the kids club, the ship could have been a pit and it wouldn't have mattered. They do a great job with the kids :) Enjoy!

That is what I thought..........would have given the suite to my son & DIL & we would have been in mini suite. They have never been on cruise so don't want to spoil them too much...HA HA.........figure the day we get butler service...will be for hubby & me....HA HA
