Just off the Oasis 4/6 sailing

Recommended Posts

Just returned to New Jersey after a fabulous week on the Oasis. There was a lot of talk on the boards about embarkation and disembarkation...let me tell you, they both were a breeze. I was on the ship before 12:30 in spite of the email saying not to board until then. We did the express walk off this morning, I was off the ship by 7:20ish and at the airport before 8:30. We spent more time waiting at port for the airport shuttle to leave than we did waiting to go thru customs. They were very organized. I recommend doing the express walkoff if you have an early flight. I will do private transfer in the future. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will post a review shortly!

I'm fairly new to cruising, sailed on the liberty of the seas at the end of 2011, but I've been dying to go on the oasis. I'm a CC lurker, but felt it necessary to share my experience because CC has helped me tremendously. Like I said earlier, getting on the ship was SOO easy(much quicker than the Liberty). When you walk on, it literally takes your breath away. We immediately went to the windjammer for lunch. My partner is a "foodie" and will eat anything. I'm quite the opposite. The windjammer had your typical buffet food, nothing to write home about. Our room was ready by 1pm, we had a balcony on the port side, 14th floor. I was a little nervous after ready CC about the potential for it to be a louder room because we were under the teen disco, but it was quite the opposite. My partner liked it because we were close to the windjammer and on the same side of the MDR. The balcony room was nice, it provided a lot of storage space. Just a warning, the safe is very small! I was able to put my ipad in there, but its tight! Our stateroom attendant was AMAZING. the nicest guy you will ever meet. we are pretty low maintenance, but he was there whenever we needed something. I like to call myself an "expert packer" because I pack 7 days in a carryon bag. We use space bags the require a vacuum and the attendant kindly brought the vacuum last night so we could pack.

I'm getting ahead of myself! Once we got to the room, I saw my beverage cup. For me, it was well worth the purchase. The Freestyle machines are great. I rarely waited to use one. I will say that there needs to be more on board and more evenly spread out. They are usually in sets of twos (two in the promenade, 4 in the windjammer two on each side, one in the arcade). I stumbled upon the one in the arcade!

We spent most of the first day getting acclimated to the ship. We walked through Central Park, the boardwalk, and did the zip line. Zipline is cool. it was higher than i thought it would be. I recommend doing this on the first day. There were only 2 people ahead of me. The ship is bigger than you can imagine. I look forward to sharing my experience here on CC. :D:D

More to come...

Great news. Sailing next month. With the express walk off, will I have any trouble with a large suitcase on the escalator(s)? Trying to decide if I need to pack differently since I have never done the express walk off.

The express walk off was easy. We only had carry-ons and were able to use the escalators. I noticed that the people that had more luggage, the staff escorted them to the elevators. There was a line for that, but not sure how long people needed to wait. I don't think you have to use the elevators if you have more than 1 piece, but it would be easier.

We also did express walk-off, trying to get to the airport to change our flight, so we got in line around 6am for the 6:15 express walk off, and we were walking off the ship around 6:30.

We then breezed down the escalators since we each only had one suitcase and a carryon bag, waited about a minute at customs, and there were no lines waiting for taxis so we were at the airport for 6:45.

Just beware that the line for walk-off was very long as many people were waiting when we joined it, but once 6:15 arrived, it actually moved very quickly as the staff efficiently "dinged" passengers out for that final time. There was also staff at key points to play traffic cop and keep the line moving while directing folks from the the elevators to the end of the line.

We also were on this cruise.....Had a FABULOUS time. We walked on thru the suite area and was sitting at the Windjammer having lunch at 11:30...

Breeze getting on and breeze getting off(we did express departure)

Now that were home...Time to go back to work and make money to book another....
