Airlines requiring a Saturday night stay

Anyone know why airlines require a Saturday night stay? If I fly to a location on a Wednesday, cruise for a week and return the following week have I complied with the Saturday stay?

Southwest, JetBlue and AirTran do not require a Saturday night stay. I think Delta has recently dropped that requirement too.

Airlines didn't actually require a Saturday night stay--they just charged much less if you stayed over a Saturday night.

Yes !

If you left Saturday and came back Sunday you complied.

 

It is the economy tickets that have this requirement .

They get more money from business people that fly out in the morning and come back later that day...so this way if you don't stay a Saturday you pay full "Y" class fare.
