Travelbug 2 Posted April 29, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Cruising on Amsterdam in May. Anyone know if there is Wi Fi on board? Thanks. :)
magandab Posted April 29, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Wifi is available on all HAL ships. It's quite expensive and often painfully slow. It is also better in some areas of the ship than in others.
sail7seas Posted April 29, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2013 These are the current rates though there has been some fiddling with them on Zuiderdam lately so a change may be coming: HAL is currently on Zuiderdam (and perhaps other ships) fiddling around with internet rates and they don't seem to have settled on what, if any, change they will be making to the rates. At the moment, these are the available packages: Quote: You will be charged a one-time activation fee of $3.95 Satellite Internet Time Plans Pay as you go $0.75 Per Minute Time Plan 1 1000 Minutes / $250.00 Time Plan 2 500 Minutes / $175.00 Time Plan 3 250 Minutes / $100.00 Time Plan 4 100 Minutes / $55.00 If you purchase a package the first day, you get bonus minutes. sail7seas Posted April 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2013 You cannot connect any device while at sea without going through the ship's Internet. We need their satelite signal.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted April 29, 2013 Look for a cone in the hallways andd other areas of the ship for the best reception.
Typhoon1 Posted April 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted April 29, 2013 All HAL ships are equipped with WiFi. We try to avoid computer use as we are on vacation.
sail7seas Posted April 29, 2013 #7 Share Posted April 29, 2013 If you find the signal is not that strong in your cabin, try opening your door halfway. Sometimes that will make for a much better signal.
vjblk Posted April 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted April 29, 2013 I sailed the Amsterdam last summer. Our cabin was 6178 on the Verandah deck. I found that I had a better signal if I sat on the floor right by the door. Didn't need to open the door but sat right in front of it. Signal was weaker the further I went into the room.
