Zydecocruiser's Carnival Elation April 15-20, 2013 Photo Review

Recommended Posts

Well it took three days, with many interuptions, and work, but I finally got to the end-and you say there is more to come! There is at least your last day at sea, but I see you have been busy writing other reviews, so I am waitiing patiently. I am so sorry that they switched my cruise out of Mobile, as these would have been my shore excursions (well I don't drink but I am hoping they would let me eat my way across cozumel). So thanks for the wonderful pictures, and story line.

Have you done Chichen Itza and chose Uxmal for something new? Or do you prefer Uxmal over the other sites in the Yucatan? I know that these pics will get the DH excited about going there, but which to choose it it's your only chance to go? Love the review, and your food porn gets me through the late shift at work, so hugs to you on that.:)

Yes, many interruptions here, too, including getting ready to board Carnival Sunshine this Friday!

We prefer Uxmal and have done both. Chichen Itza is larger and more famous. It also has tons of vendors and years ago they closed the structures to climbing.

Uxmal is easier to see within the time limits of a cruise ship shore excursion and there is still a pyramid there you can climb (unless they are restoring).

Both are worth doing, so pick one now and then try the other next time.

Great review. We will be leaving tomorrow (5/13) on the Elation and was glad to see what we have in store for us. I do have to say, however, that I am not that impressed with the Blackened Chicken. I may have to bring some blackened seasoning and show the how it really is done.

Oops - just noticed your post. As I recall, I enjoyed the Blackened Chicken. How was your experience?

Silly question. We are on the Elation for Halloween and looking at decorating our door and mailbox. Do you have a picture of a mailbox on the Elation? I am trying to figure out how to decorate it.

Thanks.

Should be easy. I don't think there are any mailboxes. Maybe the suites might have?

Thanks for this review and the one you did in Feb. This will be our second time on Elation but first time sailing out of NOLA. Glad to see not too much has changed in the 2 years since we last sailed on her. Really liked the pictures of the port itself, gives me a visual of what to expect. I did a review of our Magic cruise in Jan., but I don't think I'll be doing one for this cruise. You have done such a great job with all your pictures, I don't think I could add anything else to it if I did one. The info on the pools has already helped us since this trip we have 2 little ones going with us and they have no fear of water, but can't swim. We now know which pool to take them to.

Here I did the Cozumel Bar Hop. Was supposed to meet at Starbucks at 10am for a 10:15am departure, but almost didn't make it.

I figured leave Elation about 9:30am, catch one of the plentiful taxis, and be at Starbucks in 10 minutes. Easy, right? Wrong.

At about 9:30am, Carnival Paradise was coming in to dock at Puerta Maya so they closed the gangways for safety reasons. There I stood on the stairway leading to the gangway for an eternity. So close and yet so far. I was not alone.

Finally, at almost 10am the gangways were reopen and I rushed to get to a taxi. At literally the last second (they were heading for the van) I made it to Starbucks and was able to make the tour. Whew. Luckily, I think another MIA person who was part of a group helped delay the departure long enough for me to make it.

If on a ship tour, you probably wouldn't have an issues because the tour operators know what is going on and will likely wait, or Carnial will refund your money. But a private tour meeting at a different pier really has no way of knowing.

Sarge I hate to necro an old thread, but, I just must know: this bar hopping excursion; where did you find it? Looks like a blast!
