letsgoonholiday Posted May 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2013 We are off on the Divina in June. I'm like a kid in a toy shop with excitement! First ever cruise. How do we know where to have meals that is included in our cruise price? Obviously the "assigned Restaurant and seating time" is included - but - if we decide to eat elsewhere on the ship, is it clearly stated where surcharges apply? We also want to buy the Allegrissimo drinks package and after reading member reviews, I believe that can be done on arrival. Is the drinks package vouchers or is the information loaded onto one's cruise card? Then - last question (for a while :D) - is it worth while booking Port excursions through MSC onboard or better to do our "own thing" ? Thanks guys!! Rare Scrapnana Posted May 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2013 Welcome to Cruise Critic! The "additional charge" restaurants should be listed in your daily onboard newspaper. Usually, if you need a reservation it is going to have an additional charge. Are the ports you are going to ones you have been to before? If not, you might want to consider an excursion - either private or ship sponsored. Check out the ports-of-call board to learn more about each port. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 Keep in mind to get back to the ship before the time they tell you - the ship will not wait for you unless you are on one of their excursions. Enjoy your first cruise, but be warned --- it is very addictive.
letsgoonholiday Posted May 8, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted May 8, 2013 Thanks, Scrapnana. I think we'll play it safe and do the ship sponsored excursions. We calling at Bari, Katakolon, Izmir, Istanbul and Dubrovnik. All a first for us - never been to any of them.
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2013 In Istanbul be sure to visit the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Market and there will be some other places to visit. In Dubrovnik this is on you can easily do on your own by visiting the walled city which is about a 20 minute drive from the port. Welcome to Cruise Critic.
