july128 Posted June 12, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2013 We want to go to Magen's Bay, but also enjoy some time shopping or looking around at local things. How do we get to Magen's Bay? Taxi? Can you walk? Should we get on a taxi right off the boat and then go to Magen's Bay, then take a taxi to a shopping area? Or is there a shopping area we can walk to from the boat, and then take a taxi to Magen's Bay from there? Any help is appreciated!
Lard Greystoke Posted June 13, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2013 We want to go to Magen's Bay, but also enjoy some time shopping or looking around at local things. How do we get to Magen's Bay? Taxi? Can you walk? It is technically possible to walk, and I did it, but I would not recommend it to any sane person. The route is steep, hot and long, and there are no sidewalks. Attractive views from the top, though. Taxi.
caribsun Posted June 13, 2013 #3 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Taxi's will be right at the pier to take you to Magen's Bay. The ship will dock at WICO Pier and you are just a few steps away from Havensight Outdoor Mall for shopping. If you want you can also have the taxi drop you off downtown to check out the shopping there after your day at the beach.
Rockapulco Posted June 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Curious- any idea about the cost of the taxi to Magen's Bay and is it per taxi or per person? Thanks! Fran
caribsun Posted June 13, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Eight dollars p/p ea way + 4.00 admission to beach from Havensight area.. If you are a large group it way be more economical to book a local tour guide. http://havefunwithus.net/ http://sunnylistonfuntours.com/
blue_water Posted June 13, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 13, 2013 Do NOT even think about walking to Magens from either dock - that is a ridiculous thought! Yes the taxi will be $16 - 20pp roundtrip depending on where you're docked and the number of ppl. You will find taxis available at the cruise dock and a taxi coordinator will guide you to one. Just taxi back to Charlotte Amalie and do some shopping there, or you can shop right at Havensight if you're docked there.

We plan to use taxis to get to and from our beach day, but we are still undecided if it will be to Megans or Sapphire. They both sound good from descriptions posted by bluewater and others. Is it possible to do both? We'll be on the Allure, the only ship in St Thomas on 6/26, so maybe it won't be too crowded at either beach. We'd really like to see both! We were there from 7am-8pm. There were alot of ships in port that day so it was nice to be one of the first ships to arrive. We took a cab ($8pp) to Magen's Bay and arrived around 9am. We stayed there to about noon, when it got really crowded. We took a cab to Sapphire ($10pp) and spent about 3 hours there. Got a taxi back ($10pp) and we got back to the port between 4:30 and 5pm. I think you could do it if you have enough hours in port. You also don't have to spend 3 hours at each beach like we did. Sharon
atog254 Posted June 15, 2013 #9 Share Posted June 15, 2013 If you are a good swimmer, there is loads of good snorkeling along the right side of Megan's Bay and once at least 1/2 way around the shore swim into the center of the bay and you will finds some coral (depth about 20 ft) :) And unless you are a true walking nut, the taxi will take about 20 minutes!
