Casino question from an (Obvious) non-gambler

I am not much of a gambler, and do not like the idea of not being able to use cash in the slot machines, but having said that, this is my question:

 

My Travel Agent gave me a book of coupons which includes a match play described as a "$5 match play casino credit for blackjack or roulette table". My idea is to play the following on roulette: Put $5 on say black and $5 and the match play on red. If black comes out I get $10 my bet and the "winnings" (which is what I bet) and if red comes out I get (if I correctly understand how this works, my $5 back and then $10 more or $15, netting $5). Now I know I am out of luck if one of the zeros comes up (and if you were to see me at the roulette table betting zeroes would probably be a good bet), but is there a flaw in my "plan"?

Not all cruise ships use a card-based, cashless system for slot machines. Royal Caribbean ships still use money for their slot machines. Where a card is supported is merely for player tracking and accumulating points.

Nope, there's not a flaw in that. As you acknowledge, you've got about a 5% chance (0 and 00) of losing both your bets, and the house is willing to accept that as the house advantage.

 

If I figured this out right:

 5.2%     -$10

 

So, you're risking $10 to try to win $5 or break even.

Carnival allows you to put money into a slot machine to play too. But to cash out you need to put you card in and create a players bank. They don't pay out in cash. But if you do win and want you money right away.. just go to the casino cage and they will cash out your card.

 

I would recommend cashing out if you get a good hit. We were on the Triumph during the 8 day float cruise. My daughter had a win on the Wheel of Fortune machine and left it on her card to play with on the last night. Well, once the power was out they could not cash her out. She had to wait until the casino sent he a check. (Which was within a week but still...)

 

Not saying there is a high risk of a fire preventing you from cashing out, but there are reasons why it can be a bad idea. For instance, on the last night the lines get long at the cage with people cashing out and it can take time away from other last night cruising fun...

Not so sure you will be able to split your "match play" between red & black.

I've always been under the impression that the "match play" had to be with the choice of which you selected for your $5 bet .

If you read carefully you will see that he bets $5 on both red and black then adds the match play coupon to the $5 bet on red. Thus he is not splitting the match play.

My DW believes that there is 3% fee, but not sure if it was RCCL or NCL she has charged to the card in the casinos on both lines but can't remember what fees were assessed, but believes it was 3% on each line.

Just put out the $5 on red or black with match play coupon and forget the other bet, you are essentially doing the same thing anyways. Your way you break even on one color and win 5$ on the other. And loose $10 if green hits.

So I know this is an old thread (and I am also not a gambler and wish this thread had a better title so it would be obvious what the topic is) but I have a question about match play certificates on Celebrity. At one point I knew that there was a way to (usually) make money if you had 2 match play coupons and bet both black and red (and hope that the 5% or so odds of neither didn't come up). But now I can't recall how it worked. What's the deal.. if I bet $5 on each with a match play on both, then assuming one wins, do I get $10 back or $15? I had been thinking $10 (which would just break even) but I guess it's $15 (as mentioned earlier here), which is where the profit comes in. I'll be on Celebrity this week and will have a bunch of match play certificates. Last cruise I didn't use them because I couldn't figure out how I had made them work in past cruises.

As to betting both black/red, I think that is a left to a team of players trying to scam for perks or something.

On a $5 bet with a match play ($5 chip + $5 match-play card) the payout is $10, not $15.

You are paid $5 against the cash bet and you keep your $5 original bet.

You are paid $5 against the match play bet and they take the match play card (they don't switch the match play card to a $5 chip.)

 

I was on the Carnival Conquest in May. I got a match play for each Mojito I bought on the 7 day cruise (take your receipt to the cage and they'll give you a match play card.) I did a single spin bet and I bet on either red or black and won 6 out of 7 times. $5 wagered (plus the match play card) nets $10 in wins.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO FSUJim: If you bet $5 on the red and $5 on the black here is what would happen. Each of those bets is an even money bet. You bet $5 and you get back in winnings $5. With your match play which you could only put on one bet (choose which one). If you win on the red you lose on the black and will get back $5 in match play. You will win back your $5 and $5 match play if that is the one you had the match play on. You lose the other bet. IMHO Roulette is a terrible game for the player. It is great for the Casino. I agree. No gambling for me any more on board. Just don't care for it.
