rt1092 Posted August 31, 2013 #26 Share Posted August 31, 2013 I love it when newbies hit when they shouldn't I get to see more cards. The only thing that really irritates me is when some sticks on a soft 16. To me thats like fingernails on a blackboard. And there are times you split 10 value cards. In touramant Blackjack. I once doubled down with 18 showing and won 1st place. I won't tell you the logic but if you think about it a while you'll get it Remember there is a maximum bet. And 4th place doesn't even get you a tee shirt.
Chris_2448 Posted August 31, 2013 #27 Share Posted August 31, 2013 I was on the Explorer back in April for the 9 nighter. The BJ tables I sat at did not use the shuffle machines. They also did not have the 7's game. They had a side game that if you got 20 and your first 2 cards you won. The odds varied depending on what 2 cards you got with the 20. I did very well my first night and average the next few nights. I got bored with BJ so I tried a new game for me. 3 card poker. I enjoyed this game although I won, I didn't do as well as I did with BJ.

DevonianCruiser Posted August 31, 2013 #29 Share Posted August 31, 2013 I love when I split 8's and it turns into a major battle. For example, the next card is another 8 and you split it again. Then your next card is a 2 and you double down on that one..........and so on and so on. I love hands like that. Yep I love those ones too :-) Problem is I bet between $25 and $100, sometimes up to $200 if its going well. Those opportunities only seem to come when I'm doing the $200 bets!!! Then I don't love them (unless I win of course).
resstation Posted August 31, 2013 #30 Share Posted August 31, 2013 Sorry but I ALWAYS stay on 16. I've had much more luck doing that than hitting. I don't waver, which is what I hate. Pick a side and stick with it. My side is staying on 16. For the average, once in a while player, it doesn't matter what you do on the 16. The statistics come into play over time. I'm just more comfortable staying. That said, blackjack has to be the most boring game ever. It takes FOREVER to make any money, especially on cruise ships where the odds stink for the players. Oh well, I don't bring what I can't lose and I have fun while doing it!

Hahahaha The last time I sailed on RCI I met this really nice Japanese guy at the Blackjack table. I don't know what it is with the Japanese and Blackjack. This guy was playing $100 a hand and had a stack of black chips that easily would have touched my chin. He didn't speak much english, but he was very friendly. He kept smoking my cigarettes all night, but he kept my glass full...lol. That's not the first time I have encountered high rollers from Japan. Every Japanese player that I have noticed only deals with black chips and they love the game.

When that happens the tip fawcet get turned off.
