m steve Posted July 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2005 Taking the Diamond 2/1 and because of frequent flyer limits I will have to book a 1 way back from NZ to SYD. Any suggestions for airlines? It looks like Qantas and Air NZ are the same flights. Are there smaller carriers between Wellington and Syd?
Rare A.Emgee Posted July 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2005 You can fly Virgin Blue (www.virginblue.com.au) on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Wellington to Sydney. But your cruise ends in Auckland though! Did you mean Auckland? Regardless, the fare is about NZ$200 from either Wellington or Auckland, and one must transfer via Brisbane. Globaliser Posted July 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2005 It looks like Qantas and Air NZ are the same flights. No, they're not the same flights. And both of them now price the Tasman on a low-fare model, so all flights are sold on a one-way basis. Often, QF and NZ are cheaper than Virgin Blue (or, technically, Pacific Blue across the Tasman). corniglia Posted July 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 7, 2005 I only checked these flights for my daughter yesterday . she wants to travel new year and the availability naturally for the time of year is limited, so I would book soon. cost is $200=$300 one way. Virgin Pacific was the most expensive of the airlines listed above. Emirates also gave us a good price (not sure if it is a code share- about to check) and she is going to book this today. Kiwi Kruzer Posted July 8, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 8, 2005 I need to fly one way Trans Tasman over the New Year period. Best price was Emirates at $NZ 266.00......... but TAXES of $NZ 124.30 are additional............. making the total cost $NZ390.30 one way.... So much for low fares............... Globaliser Posted July 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 11, 2005 but TAXES of $NZ 124.30 are additional.............Seems very high compared to the taxes figures being returned by the NZ and EK websites ...
CruisinChris Posted July 14, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2005 Just curious what airline your miles are with. I've got UAL and I was able to book Sydney to Auckland on Air New Zealand as a leg of my trip using FF miles.
m steve Posted July 14, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted July 14, 2005 I am traveling United but they would not book the Wellington to Sydney portion as part of the Mileage plus ticket. I was able to book Air NZ at 159.$US but at that price they don't give miles but would allow extra baggage weight due to United ticket in Business.
