Thanks for all your brilliant comments.

I think we are going to go for a drinks package- but not sure whether to go full out for the 65 or the 55?!?

Our honeymoon is next Jnuary 2015 (Booked it today...our first cruise!) 7 days on Vision of the seas- Mexico Ports and then Independance of the seas around the eastern Caribbean the following week. Cant wait!

Typically i on a relaxed holiday my drinking habits might be

Water X6 (Glasses)

Orange Juice

Coffeex3

Brandy x1

Gin and Tonic x2 /3 beers

Half a bottle of wine Rioja or Pinot (with dinner)

Sounding like an alcoholic now! This would obviously be a good day!

Typically do people know what my drink bill would be for the above?

Best way to work it out...

It would be helpful if someone could post some pictures of the drink and wine menus. I am interested in types of wine and prices for the beer and wine package so that we can sample some before purchasing.

I know this is a long thread, but someone did post pictures of menus a while back. Someone more ambitious than me could probably find them. :D

Not going to post a photo but on the Oasis a friend took a photo of the Globe and Atlas pub menu the highest priced drink was 9.50 for a James Bond martini. A crown royal old fashion was 8.25. Also did a search for Royal Caribbean cocktail menu came up with the following page. I gave it a glance and it should be what you want.

Thanks for the link. I see only 1 option for red wine in the under $8/glass. I hope it's a good one or we will be sticking to wine packages only.

Do all bar areas have the same wine offerings? My husband drinks mainly wine with the occasional beer so it's more important to have a palatable wine option in our package.

The wine offerings vary by venue and venues vary by ship. If you are going on Freedom, you will find the widest variety available in Vintages, deck 5, Promenade.

I don't think you're close to an alcoholic... 'cause you're nowhere near me on vacation. :D

It's going to depend on a few things for you:

1) Water - Is tap water ok, or would you buy bottles? If tap is ok, I wouldn't factor in that savings. If you like bottled water (like me) the package was wonderful! I got a bottle of water after every drink, most bartenders had no problem giving me both at the same time.

2) Coffee - Regular (non-specialty) coffee is free in the buffet and dining rooms anyway. If you want specialty coffee from Cafe Promenade, then three of those each day would justify the increase to the $65 ultimate package.

3) OJ - OJ from concentrate is available for free. The ultimate package gets you free fresh-squeezed OJ, which I made great use of.

4) Wine with dinner - The packages give you wine by the glass (up to $12) and a 20% discount on bottles. YMMV, but I had a terribly hard time getting bar service in the main dining room, to the point that I walked out to a nearby bar when I needed another glass. Factor that in. If you do want a bottle that'll only be 20% off the list price.

Depending on which brandy, I'd guess that to be $8-$9

Gin & Tonic is probably around $7.50

Most beers will be between $6-$9

Keep in mind these are guesses, I had the ultimate pkg so didn't pay too much attention to prices. But if you are ok with the free water/coffee/OJ, and will buy a bottle of wine regardless, you're only looking to spend $45 on one of your "good" days. So the package might not be worth it. As always though, YMMV.

Dumb question #1. There are times both my wife and I want a drink but she is sitting somewhere without waiters being availabe, can I go to a bar with both sea pass cards and get two drinks? #2. I think I read on a previous post you can use the card in the casino, anyone varify that? I'll try to avoid too many more dumb questions.

Lol these are not dumb questions. Yes, if you take both cards you can get 2 drinks. Also, you can use the drink package in the casino. Is that what you meant when you said use the card?

I'm just giving first hand confirmation of both of these. I got both my wife and I drinks on many occasions by taking both seapass cards to the bar. I also used my package in the casino multiple times with no issue (though service was incredibly slow in the casino).

Help!

When does your drink pkg expire?

I was getting ready to purchase on line the replenish pkg for me and the soda pkg for my hubby. Everything looked good until I get ready to push the button and I noticed that our dates that we are sailing (Indy~ april 26th ~May4th) the pkgs that I chose has April 26th ~May3rd. The question is after midnight on the 3rd will all other drinks be charged to the sea pass?

No, the package is good until you disembark. It says May 3 because that is the last night you're on the ship, but if you want a soda or fresh squeezed juice or a latte in the morning that you depart the ship, you're covered.

I wanted that to be the case. Thanks for the quick reply.

Just booked the Replenish Package for my upcoming cruise. It mentions that bottled water is included, but not Evian - does anyone know what brand it will be?

Penn and Teller did a show called Bulls*it and one of the shows was on bottled water worth watching

Different varieties of generic stuff that varies depending upon the port that restocks the ship.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been looking through way to many posts and can’t seem to find anyone who has bought the Premium Package (the $55 package) and drank wine at the various bars and restaurants. Has anyone on this thread used the plan to buy wine by the glass, and if so what was the selection like? I understand the lower package includes only “house brand wine” which is reported to be pretty poor, and I want to make sure that the Premium package does allow selecting from the under $12 by the glass list.

Here's a link to a posting of pics from various alcohol menus on RCI. Included in the package at 10.00 per glass is Conundrum, which has been reported as being a very palatable mixed white from Cali.

I had the ultimate package ($65) but I believe the rules are the same between premium and ultimate, you get any wine by the glass up to $12/glass. My experience:

1) There wasn't a single wine in 150 Central Park that fit this package, not one.

2) The champagne bar on the Allure only had one on the menu that fit the package, and it was a very fruity, very clear red that I didn't like very much.

3) Bar service at the tables in My Time Dining was completely unreliable. Even after asking our server multiple times, I eventually walked out and got my own glass at the Champagne bar (this was after I finished my meal). From then on, I stopped by the Schooner bar on my way to dinner and got a glass.

4) Other than the Champagne bar and vintages, the other bars on the ship tended to have a very limited selection, and it was hit or miss and changed every day. Most had one red and one white, others like Schooner had two of each to choose from.

Overall, I loved the ultimate package, but thought it fell very short in the wine department. Hopefully this gets better by the time I cruise in December.
