Has anyone taken a taxi from the International pier to downtown recently? Any advice on which taxis can be trusted and how much expected to be charged for 4 adults?

We negate the rate up front so there is no confusion.

Taxis in Coz are well regulated (unlike the crooks in Philly! :mad:) and the rates will be posted near the taxi line at the port. As suggested above, it does not hurt to confirm the rate with the driver BEFORE you get into the cab.

Taxi up to four should be about 6 dollars. We recently in Oct took one from Money Bar to downtown, a pretty good run, for 11 dollars. Any taxi in Cozumel is fine.

If I just wanted to walk around town, where should I ask the driver to drop me off? And how do I find one going back? Are there taxi stands?

Ask for downtown - and there are taxis waiting to take you back. Bring lots of smaller bills, because cab drivers all over the world seem to run out of change when you give them a large bill. :rolleyes:

Thanks for all the replies. Our friends that we are travelling with know a couple that live in Cozumel part of the year and will be meeting us downtown after we do a little shopping. They had said that it should cost around $5 and I wanted to make sure that this was still in the ball park. We will have to remember to stay on ship time;)

$8 USD from the International Pier to Downtown according to the taxi rates (last updated 12/2012) from Cozumel Insider .
