MSC Grand Voyages (Repositioning Cruises) October 2014 - April 2015

No, MSC have a poor way of expressing themselves, at least in English. As before, the Orchestra does the repo to Fremantle then the Gallipoli charter back to Rome. Perhaps she will return late 2015?

I'm going to have to keep an eye out for these then. I'd love to do a longer cruise once my kids are a bit older. We are leaving them for two weeks with my sister next year but that's my limit whilst they are so young (youngest is six).

Which web site - I have just checked UK site and don't see it.

Ditto. Searching UK sites only for MSC Orchestra Dubai Fremantle, apart from the paid ads, brings up this CC thread and little of relevance besides!

Daffyd, do you have UK pricing?

A JOURNEY TO THE EDGE OF THE WORLD

Each day of this cruise you will be able to experience the most spectacular wonders of the world: From the contrasts of Mumbai, the temples of Phuket, the skyline of Singapore, the flora of Bali, the inquisitive koalas of Brisbane, the architecture of Sydney, the shopping streets of Melbourne and lots more.

At MSC we want to help you discover and explore the world in absolute relaxation. You’ll take thousands of photos, experience millions of emotions and return home with a new awareness of the incredible planet we inhabit.

DID YOU KNOW THAT.......

Mumbai

was formerly known as Bombay, which was the English version of Bom Bahia, a Portugese name the navigator Francis Almeida gave it, which means good bay.

Phuket

When the Burmese attacked Phuket in 1785, they were tricked into retreating by two local sisters, Kunying Jan and Mook, who disguised the local women as male soldiers to make the Thais seem stronger than they were. You can visit a monument to them at Amphoe Thalang.

Singapore

has the fastest walkers on the planet, after Copenhagen, Madrid, Guangzhou and Dublin.

Bali

The name Bali conjures images of pristine white tropical beaches, but did you know it also has many stunningly beautiful black sandy beaches, made that way by the island’s volcanoes?

Sydney

In 1957, 10 Sydney University students dressed as pirates, boarded an American warship, and announced over the PA system: “Now hear this. The U.S.S. Benington has been captured by Sydney University pirates!” Alarms for general quarters, atomic and chemical attack were sounded, rousing the crew from their bunks. The students were escorted off the vessel by marines, but no charges were filed..

Melbourne

The MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) was originally located further downriver, but the grounds were prone to flooding, and on more than one occasion the team were forced to advertise for the return of their changing rooms, that had floated off.

Perth

You thought Singaporeans were rich, but the mining boom has meant that Perth now has the highest number of self-made millionaires per capita of any city in the world.

This is just an observation that most of the confirmed repo cruises are a full 2 days slower than their nearest equivalents from the previous two years e.g. instead of 16 or 17 nights between Italy and Brazil, next year they are 18 or 19 nights, instead of 18 or 19 between Italy and Argentina, next year they are 20 and 21. Looking through the itineraries, there is no corresponding increase in the ports of call. Conclusion: MSC appear to be 1) saving fuel by reducing cruising speed and 2) keeping guests captive at sea for longer.

Thoughts?

By reducing speed, maybe there are also becoming more guest oriented and providing more of a "cruising feeling" instead of just transporting passengers. My impression was that especially on sea days, MSC ships would move so fast as if they had a competition on who arrives first. It was not very nice for us passengers. So I am happy with more days for a transatlantic :)

It's very annoying that voyages up until 2015 are on sale elsewhere but we have to wait until February for the UK to release their proces and start taking bookings.

Sorry

Time zone playing havoc with my brains tried to put all in one post but while on I pad cutting & pasting techniques not to good

But will be home for new year

Same thing here in North America. MSC's booking policy is stupid.

I booked a cruise on the Musica for 8th November 2014. I also want to book for 15th November and 17th November 2014. These 2 cruises are not open for booking in North America but people can book them elsewhere which means that people can book my cabin. I spoke with MSC USA and there is nothing they can or won't do about it. I told them that I want the same cabin for the 3 cruises otherwise I will cancel. I am not interested in changing cabins twice during a cruise.

I asked them to give me the email address for the main office in Italy but I haven't received anything yet...

Nice way to treat an almost black card member.

You can make the reservation under www.msccruises.com, which is our European site.

We all know that we can't book any cruises on any MSC European websites if we don't live in Europe. MSC USA should test their info before giving it to customers.

European travel agents will be more than helpful to assist, however.

The internet will eventually bring down the practice of corporate stitching-up by geography. They are not in control - we are!

Merry Christmas 2013.

Thanks for posting the link. I am afraid that at those prices (more than Euro 2200 pp for an inside cabin) for a repositioning to South America, we will not take next year MSC for our annual migration. What a pitty:(
