Oia Transportation?

So I've been reading about ways to get to Oia from the port, and I'm still unsure what is our best option. Our ship gets in at 2 and leaves at 10. How much is a taxi? Would it be worth it to take it to Oia and then walk back if we have time? I've read about the boat, is that a better option than the taxis? Does that save time, then?

 

Thank you for any advice. We are in our mid-20s and enjoy hiking, so this is not a concern for us. We just want to make the most of our time, so we don't want to waste it if hiking isn't worth it.

With that limited time, I wouldn't hike either way.

 

Taxi is the fastest. Boat would be pretty scenic. So I would take the boat over, and the taxi back.

 

The only taxi stand in Oia is at the main bus stop. So I would take whichever was available first, bus (2 or 3 euros pp, IIRC) or taxi (20 euros for up to 4 people, last time I was there).

We took the bus over and back to Oia. The only problem is getting on the bus. Sometimes there is a backlog and people are pushing their way on.

The boat from the tender drop off wharf has a bus back to Fira and the cable car. It worked perfectly for us.

 

Boat to OIA wharf

Bus up to OIA

Bus back to Fira when you are ready(timetable would need to be worked out to make sure you didn't miss the last bus)

 

All of this cost $15 euro a person
