any recommendations for going to a beach when solo in costa maya? last visit I did the cruise snorkle and was unimpressed. would like a fun and safe day. thanks for any help.

We're going to the tropicante. It looks to be pretty casual and easy going. Have you looked at the list at the beginning of this thread?

I would recommend Maya Chan Resort http://www.costsmayabeachresort.com . Really friendly staff, good food and free wifi.

Many people check the vibe along the beach when they arrive and pick a spot that way. We're in port with 10,000 fellow cruisers and decided having a spot staked out for us in a fun vibe area was a good idea so we reserved at Steve's Tropicante, here's his site if interested -

I checked that site where you can find out what other ships are in port that day and found out we're the only one! So it should be easy to walk into any place and find space.
