Fort Lauderdale Car Rental - Weird Prices

Does anyone have any idea of what is happening in Fort Lauderdale from Feb 16 to Feb 20?

We are on a Feb 2 14-day cruise and flying into Fort Lauderdale on Jan 29. Rented a car through Priceline (Alamo - free shuttle to cruise port) for Jan 29 to Feb 2 for approx. $28 per day.

On our return to Fort Lauderdale on Feb 16, I tried to rent same size/category car from Feb 16 to Feb 20 and quotes from different car rental agencies all come in at approx. $75 per day !!! Same car, same 4-day period.

Any ideas?

You got a great price for your first rental; whatever you find for the second, just average it out and call it a decent overall deal.

There could be a premium for picking up at an airport location on a Sunday as most city rental offices (ie Enterprise) are closed that day. Have you tried a test booking for just Monday thru Thursday?

Sunday Feb 16 is the Ft Lauderdale Marathon; if you were planning to head to Las Olas Blvd or the beach near Sunrise Blvd, better pick another day.

A busy weekend - some people have 3 days (Monday, the 17th is Presidents Day) off. Also, back in the day - many decades ago - that week was winter break for public schools in New England but I don't know if that is still the case. Many folks consider FLL a much nicer place to be than New England in February.:-)
