Key Master Games

Texas Hold'em was defined as a game of skill recently but that does not mean the best player always wins. Luck invariably plays a part.

How much money do state lotteries make? So basically you could say that they are rigged as well but people still play them.

The naivety of some is incredible!

It is a money maker, or wouldn't be on board... in or outside the casino makes no difference.

Why this kind of game? Because it isn't intimidating to non-gamblers.

A dollar isn't a big commitment, and people who are otherwise morally opposed to gambling might still stick in a bill.

It's near the casino to catch adults with deeper pockets. There used to be crane games in the arcade, but they didn't get enough action to be profitable -- or maybe the kids in the arcade beat them up too much for the high-dollar prizes to be safe.

They can't put the quarter push games in the arcade, because a cash prize makes it gambling, while a plush Freddy Funship or Tshirt doesn't.

As to the slot machines...

In land-based casinos, the machines closest to the doors are set to pay out more frequently, but in smaller dollar amounts. Psychologically, the sound of ringing winners makes you feel that everyone is winning. These are usually 25-cent machines.

The next set are the penny and nickle slots, where you actually play more per pull (typically 35-75 cents or more!). You can pretend that you're only playing penny/nickle, but actually spend more, faster. The $1 and $5 slots are further back, set to pay out less frequently but with bigger jackpots. They are set by computer in the back room, and can be re-set at any time, up or down.

Off the ship, the casino staff can speak freely, and they told us that all the machines on board are set 'low and loose' early in the cruise to get you engaged, but are pretty tight toward the end.

Some of the multi-deck card games have alternate rules, too. Fun-21, the crew said, has no Queens in the deck, making it harder for you to hit a natural 21. The staff has to tell you if the deck is non standard, but ONLY IF YOU ASK. Especially in a multi-deck game, you'd probably not even notice. Even card-counters don't track which face cards are dealt, and it's an easy and consistent way to change the game odds.

This is incorrect. To change the payout you need to RAM clear a machine manually. The Slot Manager or Slot Technician then uses an EPROM chip to reprogram the machine. This can take 5-15 minutes depending on the type of machine. Now times that by the number of machines on the floor & you will realize that changing them mid cruise is not practical.

These machines are all about security and dual control that is auditable with reporting to outside auditors. They cannot simply set them as they feel fit. Bugsy Siegel isn't in charge anymore, hello!

The Fun-21 rules, and the fact that all the queens are removed from the deck are printed right on the game play instructions card they have at each table. Not much hiding of those facts are going on...

I'm not sure I said 'hiding'. And, you are right, the rules ARE in that little card. However, it's not a table sign or printed on the felt like the odds, "dealer hits on soft 17" or other info. It's not automatically volunteered -- that is, the dealer doesn't state it when they push your chips over to you. Just on the teensy tiny card.

When you are smart enough to read the instructions, or ask a question, you get the truth -- but that's true about many things, yes?

It's easy enough to say 'is there anything special about this game that makes it different than standard blackjack?' Probably a good idea when joining any game you're not already familiar with.

Resetting the slots isn't random. It's a carefully defined formula that can be, and is, documented for auditing. The auditors don't say what's fair, just that it's documented for cash control purposes.

The players club absolutely knows when, and which, machines are set to each payoff ratio. And which ones get the most action, helping them maximize the usage of each. That's not illegal, sneaky or immoral, it's business.

Resets may occur on a set schedule without the active intervention of the casino manager/staff on board. That, specifically, I don't know.

The casino is closed for several hours each day, allowing machines to be reset or recalibrated without interrupting play or in an effort to target an individual. As long as nobody is actively playing at the machine, there is no restriction.

Sorry Sue but this is complete nonsense. Whoever told you this does not know what they are talking about.
