Just for all to know:

Smoke is caused by incomplete combustion.

Heat causes pyrolysis (slow combustion) or

fire (rapid combustion).

Both can produce visible smoke.

Good info, thank you.

I saw a woman today, and she was smokin'!! That's a technical term. ;)

Also for all to keep in mind, this was an incinerator that was smoking. It's designed to burn things. That's what it's supposed to do.

If the ventilation system goes out on the incinerator, I suspect the incinerator shuts down. Yet the incineration of "stuff" isn't going to just stop on a button. That exhaust, it appears, it what was leaking out with the loss of the negative pressure ventilation system.

I was also on the ship and thought Carnival handled it very well. I was lucky enough to already have been in line at Guys Burgers when the power went down. If I had not gotten my burger then the thought of cannibalism would have crossed my mind and notyours75 was definitely the first on my list of dining options. I had planned on his departure thoroughly prior to boarding the ship.

It was really hard to see the concern on peoples faces since there were drinks being held up to their lips or their faces were covered with ice cream(ice cream machine was still working). I do know of a woman who was caught in the elevator and was slightly irritated about it but then again who wouldn't be? That can happen anywhere though. This will not stop her from cruising. I also saw a few "larger" people catching their breath at each level of the steps. The shortness of breath seemed to pass once they got a sandwich from the deli. Thank god I exercise a little bit and had no problem going from Deck 2 to Deck 9. I would have been a little more concerned if my father was there since he is in a wheel chair.

The best bartender on the ship, Fermin, told me that he was only worried that they would decide to put the ship back in dry dock to change the new generator that they had just put in. He was just beginning his new contract and didn't want to get sent home yet. There was more of a look of annoyance by the crew than any looks of worry.

I had a great time and would gladly go on the Triumph again.

The smoke from the whale-tail would have been darker, and more dense, if the ship was stopped. While underway, the wind carries the smoke away more quickly. It would take real billows of thick, black smoke for me to be convinced there was a serious fire below decks.

We've heard the Alpha team call -- it is definitely the fire-response team, who are working in different parts of the ship otherwise, probably in maintenance or engineering.

We've also heard Bravo team and Delta team; but crew would not admit which means missing child, missing adult, fight in the nightclub, medical emergency, theft/casino issue, etc. Each would have a different, specially trained team respond.

Code Adam is a missing child alert -- named for Adam Walsh, the child who was kidnapped and murdered in the 80's. His dad did America's Most Wanted. Code Adam is a national program, like Amber Alerts, that outlines specific steps most retail stores follow when a child is reported missing.

My wife was a (alpha)fire team member, she passed the Miami Coastguard test and still has the certificate.

A very good description of the event. I also was on the cruise and at the rear pool area. We stayed up there and continued to have a few adult cocktails. BTW notyours75 we were in 7400. I will say that while the Triumph seems to be cursed, the crew did an excellent job. The situation was small but could have possibly gotten worse but the crew responded quickly and expertly. Some of the passengers not so much. One couple came back up to the pool area with their life vests

I was wondering if you were on Cruise Critic....

Glad you liked the Alchemy Bar. Did you ever try the "Perfect Storm?"

I was on board and in the Lido hot tub when it happened. Announcements were hard to hear. The hot tub was still running the entire time and the blenders were working after about 10 minutes. I remained at the hot tub with a few other cruisers and we kept on drinking & soaking the sun up. Our waiter Lovejoy told us: "I'm no worried, mon. I have ice, and the blenders are good. What do you want to drink?"

It wsn't Phillip Lovejoy from Jamaica, was it?

Here was my account of the Triumph power outage I posted on another less active thread. All in all it was a minor issue, although a bit disconcerting considering the history of the Triumph.

The gf and I got off the Triumph this morning. We arrived in Galveston super early, like 5 am because the Captain was trying to avoid potential fog. We were off the ship and in line for customs by 8:45 am. I will be posting a full review when I get back home next week. The power outage was a bit unnerving but thankfully it was in the middle of the afternoon. We were in the South Beach restaurant when the outage happened. Everyone was pretty calm and Jen the CD kept everyone updated pretty well. The aft of the ship had a bit of a smoky odor and the outage lasted about an hour. Strangely the ice cream machines still worked under emergency power. The more eventful item was the rocky seas two of the evenings. I think Carnival could have offered a small OBC for the power outage but I won't complain.

What part are they lying about ?

Not sure why you sellected the verb LYING. But you should look up why you put the hand on the bible "to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

I think some people are viewing the statement from Carnival that the outage was 8 minutes versus the entire length of the incident which was around an hour.

.

Yup. Never read one story about the 1 to 2 hour down time, or the cause. On a ship that allegedly was upgraded with all those high tech promises.

It appears some don't want to hear the whole story, or wish none of it was reported, as they are not interesdted in their safety.

As I was not on this ship when the incident happened, I will believe the stories of those who were. Also, I for one am glad CCL did report the incident.

Maybe we should not presume enough to make judgements on other people and their own thoughts on their safety. We know how you feel about Carnival.
