Need Some Miami Hotel Help

We are a few families travelling (12 of us) and need a hotel for pre cruise, August 15th for one night. We would need 4 rooms and have kids that range from 5 to 12. We would like to be by the beach but don't want to break the bank. Would like to stay around $200 per night.

If we cannot find any in this price range, we may consider either the Embassy Suites ($122 per night) or Hilton Airport ($109 per night). The have free shuttle from airport and we would book a van service to take us to port.

Any suggestions?

Flying into MIA? Search for hotels in Miami Beach -- the farther north of South Beach you get the more family friendly it will be, but also the farther away from the airport and port (so taxi/shuttle costs will increase).

Flying into FLL? I would search www.sunny.org for beach hotels that meet your budget/desires and then shuttle to POM the morning of your cruise.

Prices should be low in the August heat and humidity -- check Trip Advisor reviews before booking anything.

Look at http://www.lastminutetravel.com.

There are plenty of hotels within your price range or less near the beach. If you decide to stay near the Port of Miami you can get the Intercontinental for $108.

Taxi from MIA to South Beach is about $32+tip and you'll need at least 3 cabs; taxi fare will be more if your hotel is located farther north; once you book your hotel you should check on-line with American shuttle for a quote (they have the concession inside of MIA).

Thinking we may book the Intercontinental. It's nice that it's within walking distance of Bayside Marketplace. How do you get the $108 rate on last minute travel? I couldn't find the hotel listed.

Stay on the beach, you will be much happier.

Don't book anything yet because August is absolutely off season for us and prices will plummet.

You will be able to book some of the nicest hotels in South Beach for your budget.

In South Beach start watching:

The South Seas

Marriott

The Loews

Ritz-Carlton

Bently

You have so much time that you can do some research and come up with an outstanding hotel.

Another reason to stay out on the beach and not downtown, August is miserably hot and the breeze makes the temps much cooler on the barrier islands. All the concrete downtown makes it about ten degrees hotter.

Your kids will have a much better time playing on the beach than trying to cool off at Bayside.
