isdoo Posted February 20, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Hi, To anyone who has booked from the UK, who did you call to buy the UBP in advance? Did you call the US or UK and did you pay in USD or GBP? Thanks.
rvsullivan Posted February 20, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2014 Normally you would call whoever you booked your cruise with. If you booked with NCL UK call them, if a travel agent, give them a call. You can also book on board.
lizboyle Posted February 20, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) I booked with a TA but called ncl in the uk to book my UBP. We were 3 adults in the same cabin and I was able to purchase 2 UBP and 1 soda package as my niece doesn't drink alcohol. No questions asked. I paid using my credit card in sterling. Worked out cheaper. Edited February 20, 2014 by lizboyle

Single Cruiser Posted February 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2014 Booked cruise with TA but was told to book UBP with ncl direct. Paid sterling and at good rate if exchange. Also saves any Spanish taxes etc..
Froggitt Posted February 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I'm assuming your ordered UBP thru NCL UK. In that case, why would the cost not be liable for UK VAT at 20%?
Single Cruiser Posted February 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I'm assuming your ordered UBP thru NCL UK. In that case, why would the cost not be liable for UK VAT at 20%? Because what you are buying is not liable to UK VAT as it will never be bought back into the UK. The same as if you bought a DVD from amazon shipped from Jersey.. If you order it on the ship then if closed loop EU cruise the local vat applies.
Rare KeithJenner Posted February 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 22, 2014 I'm assuming your ordered UBP thru NCL UK. In that case, why would the cost not be liable for UK VAT at 20%? The fact that you paid in pounds is irrelevant. The product you purchased is not supplied in the UK. The company you are purchasing from (NCL Bahamas I believe) is not a UK company.
