Breeze vs Oasis

I was all set to book the Breeze, but now our dates have changed. When looking at the available cruises for our new date, I noticed the Oasis priced out at $300 more than the Breeze. Now, I'm starting to rethink my plan.

Our last two cruises have been on the Liberty and we have mostly cruised CCL. We have cruised with Disney, NCL, Celebrity and RCCL(but an older ship).

Both ships are priced for a balcony cabin and Caribbean itinerary. The ports are FLL and Miami, so not a big difference since we have to fly in. The main difference is the Breeze is 8 day and the Oasis 7. However, that isn't always a selling point for us because it can be harder to get the extra days off from work. So, 8 vs 7 is not a big selling point for us.

I am looking to see if people who enjoy CCL also enjoy the RCCL experience? Particularly the mega ships and what they have to offer.

DH was surprised when the Breeze came in just over $5000 and wondered if maybe the value for this trip would be the Oasis.

I know people place value on things differently, so to give a brief insight on our kids. DD is looking forward to ice skating(loves to skate), the ice shows and Hairspray(she likes musicals). DS is intrigued by the Flowrider and zipline.

So, is there something that makes the Oasis experience not worth it? It may only be $300 more, but I want to make sure our vacation dollars are spent wisely.

For that amount I say go for it. I think I would. We have only cruised Carnival but the Oasis or Allure or maybe Quantum when she sails is in our future, at least once. We been on the Breeze and she's beautiful. You cant go wrong.

if you like the items you listed (shows, skating, zipline), of course go for oasis.

I personally do not do any of those so I found oasis a big bag of gimmicks and woefully underwhelming compared to real shows on land, food was mediocore at best even at paid restaurants. So nothing made them better than other lines except for maybe the pretty ship.

but I"m the exception rather than norm for cruisers especially ones who go on CCL or RCI

After sailing on the Dream (Breeze's sister) and the Allure (Oasis' sister) I would be stupid not to take the Oasis if I I found myself in the same "dilemma" you're finding yourself in. There's just no comparison. The Dream was a nice cruise. The Allure was an absolutely amazing cruise. And the ship is about so much more than just the "gimmicky" stuff. The entertainment, activities, dining options (all 24 of them, half of which are included in the price), the neighborhoods, and just the ship in general, are all beyond anything that the Breeze can deliver.

I reviewed both cruises (links in my signature below). I hope that they are helpful in your decision! :)

I am Platinum on Carnival and Emerald on Royal. I would say you have to experience the Oasis or the Allure at least once. The Oasis is an awesome ship. You should pre-book the shows. The shows run multiple days and times to accommodate the large number of passengers. http://www.cruisecritic.com/articles.cfm?ID=1003 Even with the larger number of passengers it never felt crowded. Always found seats near one of the pools.

One thing that you need to really look at is the type of balcony cabin. The Oasis has inside and outside balcony cabins. The inside balconies overlook Central Park or the Boardwalk. The ocean view cabins cost more. My brother had a balcony that overlook the Boardwalk. He enjoyed it, but I know it would not be right for me. When I'm on a cruise I want to sea the ocean not a cabin across from me.

The range of entertainment is very good. Hairspray was just OK for me. The Ice show is amazing. Aqua show was unique and Come fly was me was good.

The flow rider is a lot of fun and they have 2 of them. One of them does boogie boarding and the other stand up surfing. The zip line was ok Just a short ride. You also have rock climbing, mini golf and lots of other things to do.

The Oasis has my vote!!!

I agree, I want to see the ocean from my balcony!:) It did take a minute(or two) to sift through the cabin choices. I was also afraid the boardwalk/central park view balconies could be loud.

We have cruised on the Oasis and most reverently, the Breeze. Surprisingly, we enjoyed the Breeze more. We found that the Oasis gave us a "hotel" experience more than a "sea" experience. The areas devoted to sea views were fewer than those on the Breeze. The sea was a huge focus on the Breeze. Also, all entertainment must be pre-booked on the Oasis. This means reduced lines but less flexibility when it comes to how you spend your day. You are always aware of a scheduled event and for us that was a negative. We suffered from too many scheduled events in our day to day work lives. Finally, the ship vibe on the Breeze was so much more relaxed and casual. You could spend your entire day in your bathing suit and enjoy easy access to a delicious breakfast burrito by the pool and a yummy hamburger , later, for lunch.

Don't get me wrong. The Oasis is a stunning ship with a huge variety of things to do and see. Kids will love it but parents might come home feeling that they need a vacation to recover from their vacation.

Either way, you couldn't wrong choosing either of these ships. Have a wonderful vacation with you family!

$5,000 for the Breeze? For a week? For four people in the same room??? I thought I read the OP and threads carefully but maybe not...

We've been on the Breeze our last two cruises and really enjoyed it. I think the RCCL nickle-and-diming would offset anything that Oasis or Allure was superior in.

Yep, just a bit over $5000 for an 8 day in a balcony cabin.

I was concerned about the nickel and diming, but I don't think it's going to be a huge issue for us. There are at least 12 places to eat that aren't an additional cost and the activities the kids are interested in are free as are all of the shows. The one place we would go is Johnny Rockets and at least the soda package works there. Most of the things I would pay extra for on Royal, I would pay for on CCL, ie fresh squeezed juice, coffee, drinks, soda package.

I enjoyed the Oasis - however, when we went it was double the price of a regular cruise for us so that turned us off a bit. Obvioulsy that isn't an issue for you.

I agree with the pp was said that the focus was not on the seeing the sea so to speak but the ship was a unique experience from other cruises we were on.

I loved having the flow rider, zipline & rock climbing but the lines for these things were a bit annoying.

It was also annoying to have to pre-book your shows as we couldn't get into the ones we wanted (comedy club filled up early!).

For a $300 difference I wouldn't hesitate but imo doing the oasis once was enough for us.

Personal preferences aside, I think you could do much better than 5g for either ship even with a balcony room. Then that would leave more money for either Johnny Rockets or whatever. Just don't like to see people ripped off or don't know there are so many options to competitively price cruises -- then you can take more of them!!!

Sailed both ships, Oasis hands down. No comparison and definitely worth that price difference. I had actually sailed Oasis on two consecutive sailings before going on the Breeze, and I missed Oasis the entire time. I am a "big ship" person, for whatever it's worth. Just my $.02.

$300 difference is UNHEARD of. If we could get on Allure for that, we'd do it in a hearbeat. We are booked on the Breeze in July, and paid $4300 for 3 in a Lido balcony.:mad:

DH's tax season didn't coincide with DH's April vacation this year:mad:

However, with that being said, we wouldn't use the FlowRider, Rock Climbing wall, skating rink, boxing rink, etc......

We like to get on a ship and just chill out, with a drink in hand, and watch the ocean go by.

We cruised on the Breeze last year, and did just THAT.

Earlier poster said it didn't feel like a cruise ship, but felt more like a city.

I guess one never knows until they try it themselves......

Let us know what you decide:D

Your cruise is the other one I was looking at, but early August works better. Sad because it bumped the price up to $5000+.

I think we are going to book the Oasis because it sounds like this is good price, especially in comparison with the Breeze. I have to admit, I am intrigued by all of the options for live music, dancing, shows and "parties" in the evenings. I don't know that we will partake in all of them, but I want to see what it is like to have those options available.

Been on the Oasis and the Allure- and the Breeze twice. In last three years... I don't prefer any cruise line....just love cruising....Here's my thoughts-just my opinion-

Rooms bigger on the Breeze

I don't know the age of your kids, but Kids camp on carnival - now club 02 - preferred by my daughter over RCCL. She has always loved Carnivals activities the best- and prefers Carnival. She's now 17 and cruising since age 6.

Shows- RCCL wins- hairspray one of the best shows I have seen on a cruise ship! Across the board, RCCL has better entertainment.

$ - bill at the end of cruise always double on RCCL that over Carnival... It's just more expensive - more things to spend money on- and restaurants that cost $. Cupcakes, shakes etc...

Food- RCCL wins on the specialty restaurants- choices and quality the best. But main dining room? The Free dinner? carnival wins. More consistent dining experiences- and warm chocolate melting cake!

Finally, please don't take this the wrong way- but on both my Oasis cruise( summer) and Allure cruise(New Years) many of the passengers were not English speaking. Or didn't have English as a first language. I like to go to the casino at night- very hard to make small talk when you can't. Wine tasting? Very few spoke English....Did it ruin either cruise? No but hard to strike up a conversation in line at Starbucks at sea when everyone around you is speaking Spanish- I threw an hola or gracias in now and again but....

As for flow rider- my daughter did it on liberty - but last cruise- lines so long on allure she didn't want to wait all day. The zip line - fun- but takes one minute. Rock climbing is awesome and skating at sea fun ( bring long pants and socks or they won't let you go)

So that's it! Is one better than the other? No - just different! If you are aware of the differences and match those with what your family interests are- then you will make the best decision!

There is no comparing the Oasis class ships to Carnival or any other. The Oasis class is a cruise and an experience to have on the seas. I would not hesitate on that $300 difference.

Carnival could combine two of its best ships together and could not come close to what the Oasis class has to offer and gives you for a cruise.

Enjoy your cruise on which one you pick.

Awww!!! We really DO love the Breeze. The ship is BEAUTIFUL and there is SO much to do. Either way, you are going to have a great cruise!!!!:D

My wife and I sailed the Carnival Liberty in December and then just came off the Oasis for our honeymoon this past Saturday. While the ports and food were better on the Liberty, hands down the Oasis was the better cruise. The Oasis is unlike anything else at sea and is in a class by itself. The only downside to sailing the Oasis, however, is that the entertainment is so good and the ship is so impressive that any future ship you go on will seem like a let down.

The Oasis twins are marketed globally, so you will find a much more international clientele than on any ship on Carnival, which is heavily marketed to the North American market and fellow passengers tend to be mostly from the USA, many who live within driving distance of the port of embarkation.

On our sailing on the Allure, we literally met people from all over the world. Brazil, India, Germany, Japan, etc. The Cruise Compass was available in 6-7 different languages. Walking down the Royal Promenade we could hear different languages at all times. Formal night was a cultural feast.

For us, the opportunity to mingle with people from all over the world was actually a highlight of our cruise on the Allure. And it was wonderful to see how all these different cultures interacted so well with each other, something that unfortunately I can't say from some cruises where majority of the passengers were from this country. :(

We haven't tried another line yet, but if the Oasis is only slightly more it might be a good time to give it a try. I've read rave reviews on the ship. Then you'll be able to decide first-hand if the difference in size and amenities is worth it to you to choose for future sailings.

I have to laugh. We sailed Allure this summer and my daughter ( then 12 yrs old) commented that if they took everyone who didn't speak English off of the ship we would be the only ones left on board. Of course she exaggerated, but it didn't help that there was an organized group on board. It was a company that organized Quincaneras. There were 26 girls celebrating their Quinceaneras on board that week. I loved watching them on formal night when the photographers were in full force. All of these beautiful young ladies ( and their families) dressed so elegantly and taking family pictures.
