Cruizlovers Posted April 18, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2014 Hello all, we wanted to do something other than sit on the ship in Falmouth, Jamaica. We were thinking about The Red Stripe beach which is a Royal Caribbean excursion. Has anyone been on this lately and is it better than doing nothing in that port? We've seen mixed reviews, the price is pretty cheap. Thanks in advance!
Rare DragonOfTheSeas Posted April 18, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2014 Have you checked out the Jamaica port of call board? There are several threads on Red Stripe beach. We went to Falmouth last month and visited Dunn River Falls. [cruise excursion] It was great. There are lots of good things to do in Jamaica. However, it is not the kind of place you just get off the ship and walk around the city on your own. The cruise port is clean and safe--but, very artificial. cb at sea Posted April 18, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 18, 2014 Get a guidebook on Jamaica...there are plenty of things to do...just not right at the port. The port was built for cruiseships...there really is nothing there that the cruiseline didn't put there.

We've seen mixed reviews, the price is pretty cheap. Thanks in advance! We went to red stripe in March. It's a shirt ride from the port, there are chairs and shade, a bar and cafe of sorts, beach is ok, sand is fine, wager is nice. Went with ships excursion, very reasonable and safe. Security on the beach and some entertainment. Would do it again. Have been to Jamaica many times, including a week at all inclusive resort, just wanted a decent beach with shade and that's what we got. exchiefPFD Posted April 22, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Have done this excursion twice, both times the beach was clean, the people friendly and the Red Strip beer was cold. A good buy for a simple few hours at the beach. :)
nanner10 Posted April 22, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 22, 2014 Have done this one twice too and plan to go again in June. Not a bad beach and we prefer it to other options in Falmouth.
CaribbeanCrush Posted April 22, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 22, 2014 We booked the Bamboo Beach excursion through the ship in January. The only drawback for me is the drive to Ocho Rios, otherwise it was great. Good food and drink and the beach was really nice, not crowded at all. I'm guess the crowds were at Dunn's River falls or the Martha Brae float trip. It was more expensive than Red Strip, but the food and drinks were included at Bamboo Beach.
