palermo22 Posted May 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2014 We have a car reserved to take us from Heathrow (Terminal 5) to Southampton. We arrive at 4 PM on August 1. If you are arriving around that same time and would like to share the cost (1/2 would be approximately 40 GBP) - then please write me: palermo22@aol.com

palermo22 Posted May 20, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted May 20, 2014 Ads like this should be posted on your roll call, and only there. Why? PS It is on on our roll call - but I see no harm in putting it here in case another couple is taking a different cruise but going around the same time. If you read the cruise critic rules you will see that the roll call is the only place to post this. I realize you probably didn't know this but that really is the rule. :) Keith
John Bull Posted May 20, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) A cruise critic ruling. But not a hanging offence ;) More pertinent is that arranging to hook up with strangers for a shared ride from an airport is fraught unless they're on the same flight. If one flight is delayed it fouls up the other's arrangements. Especially if it comes into one of Heathrow's other 4 terminals. And to add further complications, immigration lines may be longer at one terminal than another, and to fit four plus luggage you may have to upgrade the car. IMHO just not worth the risk or complications to save about £40. A 4pm arrival is also quite unusual, and many arriving at that time will plan to overnite at a Heathrow hotel or spend a day or two in central London. So the prospects of finding sharers are pretty slim. JB :) Edited May 20, 2014 by John Bull

What you say is true about people being held up for various reasons - was just trying to get lucky. Our plane leaves LAX at 9:45 PM; therefore, the late afternoon arrival. Rare Keith1010 Posted May 26, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2014 Roll Call is really the way to go. Remember if people planes get in late it can really be a hassle to share cars. Keith
