When we were at HMC May 9 the $179 for the cabanas was for 4 people and I believe it was $45 per extra person.

I've posted this before but will be happy to post again. I justified the $179 cost by thinking of it as a shore excursion for my husband and me. I hope I can explain my logic well enough:

First of all, you get a mat and snorkel equipment. So that would be, oh I don't know, like $20 per person at least? That would effectively draw down the $179 price to $139. Divide that by two (or four, or however many people you're planning to split the cost with), and you'll find that the price is more like $69 per person.

To have 1) a mister over my chair, 2) an air conditioner at my back, 3) a refrigerator full of snacks and water, and 4) a cabana boy to fill up my rum punch all day ($15 p/p with cabana rental) at HMC in [B]JULY[/B], I'll gladly fork out the money! Even if, as reported by others, the price has risen to $219, if you do the math and it makes sense to you, then I say [I]SPLURGE[/I]!!! [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

Rebeccah: I agree with you but we even went one step fuirther by getting the Butler. Some may not think its worth it but this way I can have what I want to eat and not have to deal with the BBQ (I am not a hamburger fan) Plus all the beverages (including alcohol) that I want.

When broken down the Cabanas are are a great item even if for only two people!!!!

Hi Guys,
I've been following this thread with great interest, but can find absolutely no information or pictures either on this thread or on the HAL website. Can someone please direct me? When I go to the HAL site and then to HMC, there is nothing about cabanas, drinks, butlers etc.

There is really nothing on HAl website regarding the Cabanas, I got to see pics on here. look under the thread for photos. I believe that is where I got the info.

Here is what I do know about them, (thru pics and talking with HAL) they are small wooden structures that have a/c a table, chairs a mister, small little deck area, a frig and you can either do with/out butler. Without you can have all the soda and BBQ you want. With Butler you can have anything you want including alcohol. They give you a menu the evening before you dock at HMC.

You can call HAL and they will anser all of your questions for you and thats is where they take the reservations. Also you pay for the Cabana at that time so its paid in full prior to the cruise.

In may after seeing these, we did reserve at $179, but read here that the price has increased. We have been there four times and LOVE the island. Even with the increase it is worth it to us.

As you are looking at the ocean and the ship, stay to the far left and swim out to the point for fantastic snorkeling (you will see other snorkelers out there). The numbers and varieties of fish were amazing, comparable to, or better than, our snorkeling off St. John.
Half Moon Cay was our favorite beach of the cruise. Cabanas would not have been worth the cost to us because we were in the water most of the time. There was a short afternoon shower, but it ended quickly.


Hi. First time on HAL and looking forward to HMC in late August. I discovered snorkeling while on the Explorer and found these private islands to be just great for getting one's feet wet (sorry [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img] )

If one wanted to do snorkeling just off the beach without an excursion, which direction would be best? With Labadee (RCCL) there was one beach that was suited for this.

Any other suggestions as to what area would be nice and somewhat secluded, with some shade, yet not too far from the chow?

There's lots of discussion about the beach, the cabanas, what's free, locations of food and bathrooms, etc. You'll find photos of the beach at HMC that should illustrate the relative locations of the amenities...
